It's kind of hard to explain--but inputs vs outputs takes same level of effort with different results. This is an exaggerated model--but worth considering. Let's say that a ship offering "needed supplies" can enter the port. That said they can offer supplies for 10,000 people--but a similar ship who can only hold 1,000 people is in line too. Who do you help?10K or 1K? The decision sucks no matter what but those are the kinds of decisions being made right now. And what I see in the media is an unwillingness to provide all the facts.

My local news just showed a picture of hundreds of loaded and ready to go supply trucks sitting in PR...No drivers.

Puerto Rico needs more help:hit
:( I just hope uglyduckling is ok. (everyone really, but especially someone we "know"). The disaster relief people will be co-ordinating everything, but as rjohns says, it's not an easy task. Recovery will take a long time :(

I wonder whether the "general chat" we've been having might be better peeled off into another thread so that if there's anyone hurricane affected needing to post on topic, it won't be buried in pages of "other stuff"?

There is a city named Pasadena in:
oh thanks. There's a pop song "It's a long long way to Pasadena". I wonder which Pasadena John Paul Young's singing about? :D

Best of luck... I too hate the vampires and never understood why they always had to make a new hole:th
You can keep the same hole if you keep some "plumbing" in it to keep it open, otherwise it collapses after it's "poked".

Ok...
When he first told me the story, the very FIRST thing that popped into my mind was, " A biologist, a physicist, and an engineer all walked into a bar.....".
Yes, I thought it was the start of a joke and was waiting for the vicar and the irishman to show up.

How I feel about Polish/German food
:wee
Aldi (supermarket) just had german food on their "specials", I got some mustard and some kraut.

The answer is no.
This is the perfect thread for us.
We are staying busy waiting for @theuglyduckling to come back.

They can even get the Puerto Rico people a working phone. All the news shows is hoards of people wandering around trying to get a signal. I wonder why they don't put out some satellite phones so at least they've got a little outside communication. Off topic, but has anyone else noticed how happy Lester Holt looks during disasters? I don't think that man is shuffling a full deck.
