Hurricane Advice

No TV we do have a "regular" radio but I haven't touched it yet. I guess now would be a good time to dust it off. I'm one of those that sleep with the TV on kind of people so I've been keeping a DVD playing for sound non stop. I'll know the words down pat pretty soon to Remember the Titans movie soon enough

We had a great radio station around here when we had the tornado that was very helpful. I am glad you are okay hang in there.

While I am sorry for the people that are having trouble I truly don't understand the total lack of planning some of these people live in. Especially, if you have children. You can buy those nasty meals in supplies of four days for $10 sometimes and I ship it to you throw it in a bag and you know you put a few things in there and even if you have to leave you can carry it. I don't live in a hurricane Zone but I live in Tornado Alley in fact, Joplin Missouri if that Rings any bells.. A little preparation and a little bit of cost and some of these people wouldn't be quite so stressed out.

Sad but true. When I was at the grocery store people were all in line for food. It was well known that we were going to be hit by Harvey and the store shells were bare days before it hit...which I had expected...I have plenty of food. Thank god I'm not having to "fight" to feed my kids right now. The few days before the storm hit I was shocked to see what the people around me were sticking up on. I think a lot of people must live on fast food or eat out a lot.

How are our folks on the TX/LA boarder holding up? I don't think the west side of Harvey has moved all day...

They got over 30 inches since Harvey pulled away from Houston. I suspect they're in a similar situation Houston was in a few days ago. It's incredibly how much moisture Harvey was able to pull out of the entire gulf. Amazing storm!

I bet the people in the shelters are eating better now then they would be if still at home.

UMCOR is a Methodist relief ministry, and 100% of donations go to flood relief. They focus on cleanup and rebuilding efforts, with their most notable contribution being "flood buckets," a 5-gallon bucket stuffed with cleaning supplies. UMCOR also sticks around for years afterward. My dad (Methodist minister) was assigned to Cameron, LA and Grand Chenier after Hurricane Rita (the forgotten storm). His job was mission recovery, and he was there over 5 years.

I remember seeing them down there working for years after Rita. I was so impressed with their dedication.

That's it. Not too shabby for just surviving a historic flood event.
