Hurricane Preparation

Look at the 19th thread in this forum here's a lady willing to pay if somebody will rescue her chickens. that might be a way to get more money to run north.

Guys relax! I'll be fine. First, it's going to go through Cuba, and that will weaken the storm to about a cat 3 or 4, or that's what I have learned from the latest update. Second, the models are predicting that it will move farther east, and just grazing the coast. Third, we don't have flooding problems as bad as Houston because we have sandy soil and limestone that water seeps through. We are also filled with lakes and rivers. It looks like this is going to be like another Charley, and my home has survived the 2004 hurricanes. I'm just worried about the people in Key West. That is going to be hit hard.

That's what most everyone has said before dying in a hurricane.

ETA: But seriously, Irma is equivalent to a cat 3 tornado, but 500 miles across. PLEASE GET OUT! You can thank me later.

Tyler is regretting this thread right about now. Good luck and if you are staying put I would bring the birds inside the house with you. If garage or a kennel not available, maybe stick them in a spare bathroom so easier to clean up later and has built in perching spots? Just for G-d sake take out the toothbrushes :)

Please don't take my comments as critisium for the choice to stay. I'm genuinely worried for the safety of Tyler and anyone else in Irma's path. :hugs

Here's a reminder what a cat 5 (Andrew 1992) can do:

There were still small towns that were never re-built that resembled that in 1998. Seriously I wish you luck with your choice to stay. I'm certain my niece is staying also no matter what at the moment, further north on east coast. The pressure is dropping this morning so means strengthening. No one can 100% accurately predict what will happen.

My sister lives right outside Ft Lauderdale. Her husband is throwing the tow-behind camper on the truck, packing up the kids and his mom, the dog and cats and headed north today or tomorrow. My sister has to stay, mandatory personnel. She works in a hospital in Miami; medical equipment repair. Half her inlaws are in PR. I'm really worried for all of them right now.
My aunt and uncle are also in Orlando. They're planning on spending the weekend in a resort hotel in Orlando. Leaps and bounds better than the trailer park they live in. Why do they allow trailer parks down in FL still??
