Hurt Chicken

Poor girl! I've put together a list of things that I think will help her along with some exercising of the leg. I've tried to go the cheapest route and I'm not going to gurantee anything, but I do think it will help!

https://www.naturessunshine.com/product/skeletal-strength/
- This is called Skeletal Strength and it focuses mainly on the joints and muscles and where nutrients are lacking, helping to rebuild and support the skeletal system. I would break open the capsules and mix in with her food twice daily.

- I used arnica tablets for my chickens that were having joint issues and it helped to take care of it completely. I would apply the cream 2 times daily on the joints. Aloe vera is also an option, but maybe not quite as effective.

Apple Cider Vinegar
- ACV will help improve her overall health. It will give her an improved appetite, improve feather quality, help her gut, and so on. I would add a small amount to her water once a week.

If you happen to have any inflammation tinctures then I would add that to her water as well. If not, then that's okay.
Like I said before, I won't gurantee anything, but I do think it will help her alot! It's up to you though and what you think is best for your bird!
Thanks so much for all the info! I am going to do this and see if she improves 👊

Awesome! Check back after giving her the stuff for a week and let me know how she's doing!
AidKD, I saw that you posted a message on my profile, but I can't open my profile for some reason
Hmmm, not sure why that would be. Have you tried clicking directly on your own name from a post on this thread?

Yes I will! Already put the vinegar in her water.
Oh that's what it was. Thanks!

Just came back from vet. So they did no x-ray, and said her leg isn't dislocated or broken. Actually, they think it doesn't have anything to do with the leg. They have suspicions like maybe it's neurological, and maybe tissue or tendon damage. They said that it might get better over time, let her outside, and keep taking care of her. So we'll see

Xrays are pretty expensive 100-200 dollars. It is good that the vet didn’t think you needed one. Does she move the toes on that leg, or does she grab your finger if you rub her foot? Nerve damage could be the problem. Sometimes Mareks and nerve damage can be confused. I had a hen who lost her balance for about 5 weeks, and had to live in a basket nest box on the floor of my coop. The other chickens did not bother her, but when she started getting up and trying to walk around again, they attacked her. I tried keeping her spearated in a dog crate with food and water, but they did not let her back with them. She spent about 6 months on the other side of the chicken fence during the day, happily walking around, eating, and seeing them through the netting. Eventually they did accept her back after a little bullying. It is nice that you have given her a chance to recover.

Okay, thank you for sharing that. Yes, an x-ray would've been pretty expensive, even though I found a vet that surprisingly charges 85. She does move her toes, and tightly grabs my finger when I hold her, but her whole body is lop-sided, leaning towards the right. I wonder if nerve damage is the problem? What were your chicken's symptoms? My chickens don't even want to see her, except one that is very docile, so they are in a total other part of my yard together. She sleeps in my basement. Do you think it will fix on its own?

Hi everyone,
Chicken is doing okay- still has an enormous appetite and laid two eggs yesterday! She seems to have more control over her leg, and we have had her outside some. We can't let the chickens at her (though we have one good chicken that stays with her when she is out), but I'm hoping as time goes on that they will let her back into the group. Any suggestions for faster healing or am I doing okay? :) Hoping that she continues to improve 🙏

Does anyone think I can put her back with the chickens now? She walks with a limp but it's not as bad and I'm worried that she doesn't like being in the dark basement all the time, even though I do let her outside about 2x a week. She has lost a lot of weight too. :(
