So the guy I was supposed to get fertile coturnix quail eggs from for $3.00 a dozen in my immediate area.. completely flaked out on me...

Not that I blame him, he said his mom decided not to sell eggs for hatching because it would ruin her business of selling eggs...

Anyways. that has left me searching for eggs in my area, hoping I can find someone that is selling somewhat cheap, and avoiding shipping, as my budget is tight... but my son helped me build our incubator (think I cut, he threw away styrofoam) and REALLY wants to put some eggs in there (me too)

... Wish me luck and please don't mind my rant... Just thought someone might feel my stress!!!

Aww, Thanks! I appreciate that!

The guy's been stringing me along for almost 3 weeks now. I posted an add on CL looking for coturnix or bobwhite eggs. We'll see what happens! Now I'm almost too excited to decide between a good or bad deal!

She most likely is selling them to an asian market or clientele for use in sushi and bento. If you sell eggs it cuts into her market.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. BUT, thinking more about it, I say that you check ebay out. Find an auction that has a ton of eggs in it for a cheap price. I bought 150 eggs last year for under $25. Then sell any excess chicks (or eat them).

I knew this thread was coming, I got the text on Friday from Andrew.
What a bummer . . .

Im pretty dissapointed.

Holachicka, coturnix start laying at about 6 - 8 weeks, so mine are what about 2.5 or 3 weeks old . . .
Once they start laying, Ill hook you up.

I dont understand peoples reasoning for things, and "moms" attitude about it just makes me WANT to put her out of biz.
Obviously these people dont know too much about it besides selling refrigerated eggs, so it wouldnt be too hard to find a market.
Once their birds stop laying, they are SOL, but Ill be producing new birds and continue selling eggs.

So, if you can wait a few more weeks, Ill get you some fertile hatchin coturnix eggs.
Im sorry to say, but I hope Andrew sees this and tells his mommy what my plan is.

I had to teach Andrew how to tell if fertile, and how to store hatching eggs.
They keep em in the fridge, and Im sure they aint gonna stop, especially with the new attitude about it.
If you buy eggs from him thinking you just wont tell him your gonna hatch em, youll be wasting your money.

You guys are the best!

I even posted an add on craigslist looking for quail eggs. I got a couple of responses, and one guy seems to know what he's doing. Chickenwhisperer even if I do get quail eggs in the meantime, I'd love to buy some from you when they start producing, so I can have variety! I emailed the chico bobwhite guy and am hoping he has some eggs available, my neighbors son live there and would be willing to transport some to me the next time he visits, so we'll see! Yeah, it seems that Andrews mom was being a little silly, she could either sell me the eggs and make some money, or I would just buy them from someone else...

Don't think she's really thought it through... I wouldn't want to trick them though and buy eggs for eating to incubate.

On a side note, tour of california is underway, and lance armstrong just rode by my house. cool!
