I am very unhappy with My Pet Chicken

Can anyone recommend a store/e-store that sales a good fitting saddle? I just told my 9 year old dd ( horse-lover) that I need to buy saddles for the hens and she gave me a look like I totally lost my mind. LOL!!

Hey redhead you have no idea how many are reading along not asking the question you did but wanting to! You're not a laughing stock but in my book bravely putting yourself out there. I'm a 40 something looking for some lessons in backyard chickens myself and talk about teaching an old dog new tricks! LOL I appreciate anyone asking the questions I'm sitting here thinking. Thumbs up to you & thanks......

Ok, now I'm terrified that my chicks will come early.
I divide my time between PA & VA, that 410 miles apart.
If they come early it will take a minimum of 6.5 hours to get there. Has anyone else received their order early?
Just curious, did anyone get extra chicks?

I saw some nice saddles advertised on MBLdesigns. I already put money out for saddles from the person that sells them on mypetchicken (but got scr*wed) so I won't be odering more right now. I'm hoping to make them myself soon.

Thank you Mom2Cool ~ There are so many things I am still learning about ~ but I have to say, if I had to look the fool, far better to do it here amongst these kind BYC-er's than at my local feedstore ~lol, lol ~ I still have the image of Ruth's hubby asking about stuff and getting mocked openly at their local feedstore. :-D

Well not many updates around here other than chicks and ducks everywhere eating me out of house and home. But funny story today of how my hubby is making us the laughing stock of the town.

He calls a woman in town who raises cows and tells her he's interested in getting some cows. She says "What kind of cows do you want?" He says "Oh I don't know. I just want to get some calves and put them in the pasture and see what happens." She proceeds to tell him that he can't have any of her registered Angus cows and she will call around and see if anyone has some cheap cows or sick cows or something disposable since he obviously knows nothing about cows and "just wants to put some calves in pasture and see how it goes."

So he doesn't stop there. Proceeds to tell her I raise chickens and that "they freerange". Again she laughs and says basically "boy you must be from the city. This is the country - around here you don't tell anyone your chickens free range. Of course they free range - where else would they be except running around the farm?"

Now that he has most of the town folk laughing at us and calling us stupid city people - I've asked him to stop making these phone calls.

This would be me, if it weren't for BYC, lol, they'd just start shaking their heads when I walked in ~ And it's not as if this stuff can't be learned, they all had to start somewhere, but some folks have a hard time admitting that, I think.

I just ordered from MPC, mainly because they have the breeds I wanted available (which MM does not). Have never talked to anyone who ordered from them. I liked that they had pics of the breeds, their order form was better than MM (with the pics of the birds you ordered right there beside the listing....so I wouldn't forget) and the shipping was less than MM. Actually, some of the birds were cheaper also.

Anyone else out there have a bad experience with this hatchery? If so, what kind of experience? Do the chicks arrive healthy? Do they reimburse for dead or sick chicks upon delivery? Do they often send the wrong breeds or sex? I'm just getting a little worried after reading this post....I guess anyone can have a bad experience with any hatchery on any given day, but I really want this to turn out well. This is my first experience ever with baby chicks and I want it to be a good experience.

Anyone else?

Hi Beekissed,

Lots and lots and lots of people here have ordered from MyPetChicken. It has been thoroughly discussed. Use the "search" button above to find some of the threads.

Summary: as with almost any other hatchery, most people have had really good experiences, some not so much.

Have fun,

Pat

My problem is they didn't stay in contact with me. So many things went wrong with my order, it came early, one was a roo instead of a hen and we suspect another might be a roo but I don't know yet. They did add one roo for shipping, but I have not counted that one as a mistake. I did ask that they do not ship any roos even as packing peanuts and they said that is not a problem but did anyway. They also sent the wrong type of polish. None died even though they took several days in transit, Post Office's fault not MPC.

They did refund the shipping and for the confirmed roo. I wouldn't have been so upset but I had to keep asking for the refund. If the other suspected roo turns out to be a roo, then I will really be upset. I doubt I will order from them again.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with MPC, and I've read many threads from people who had bad experiences with many hatcheries. You feel wronged and rightfully so, but everyone makes mistakes. I thought it was nice that they joined BYC, admitted their mistake, and tried to make it right.

Our experience with MPC was very satisfactory. We got exactly what we ordered (types and sexes) and they were delivered when they were supposed to.

Hopefully you can get past this and enjoy your chickens without bad feelings. They are such wonderful and fun animals!
