I can't imagine living in the North....

This has been a good thread. Way, way off topic for this section, but a good thread.

Today we are suppose to get up to 10 degrees for the first time in weeks, but warmth comes at a price... SNOW. 8" more to sit on top of the 20+" we got over the Christmas blizzard. Then tomorrow, back to a high of zero with enough wind to move all that snow up against buildings, ditches, fence lines, etc. So instead of just blowing 8" of fluffy stuff, I will have to get through 4' drifts just to get to the barn door! Hey, chicken management talk. I need to get to the barn to feed the chickens!!!

But, when you're FINALLY at home, and the outside animals are tucked in, and YOU'RE inside for the day/night, stocked up, the snow is A W F U L L Y P R E T T Y!!

My oldest is being released early. It hasn't stopped snowing since it started at 5 this morning but the drifting is the big issue at this point. Yes, dangerous but very pretty!

THat snow pic looks just like the road in front on my house today....'course our is only a two lane highway; but man, it is snowy! I hope it doesnt blow too badly tonight. I had to stay home from work today--I have to fit two days into tomorrow now......Terri O in WI

Personally, I can't imagine NOT living in the North, or for that matter not living in Maine.

It's the most beautiful State in the country. Well, once the tourists leave it in September.

In colorado we usually have snow hang around for maybe a week. This is very unusual. Most years I don't even bother to shovel the walks, since they'll be melted off in a day or so anyway. As I drive around town, it reminds me of pictures I've seen of upper midwest towns, with snow hanging around until it's ugly black glaciers at all the curbs.

I can't imagine living there.

I've spent some time in the southern part of the US a few times. In Air Force basic training (many many years ago) it snowed about 1/4". San Antonio and the entire base just shut down. I watched a Florida kid staring out the window at the snow. "It falls so slowly!" he said.

Breathing the air in South Carolina or Louisiana in the summer is like breathing through a used tube sock, compared to what I'm used to here.

I can't imagine living in the South.

So where is the happy medium? I live in Kansas, which isn't exactly North, but not exactly South, either. We are having freaking cold, snowy weather, but it gets obnoxiously hot in the summer, too. Is there anywhere where it's moderate all year? That is also affordable???? I'm so done melting snow for my animals and me. Frigid temps and frozen pipes just suck!

Wow!....in Northern Ca., we have the happy medium. But we pay for the weather. Been here all my life and can't imagine the kind of cold many of you are in. That picture from Maine is so pretty! Happy New Year.

Ya, i've watched the "flip this house" CA style before on T.V. You buy a dump for a half million, stick another half million into it and sell it for 3 million
