Well, I am down to just two mature hens, a rooster, and their three babies, all of which are silkies.

we were in the mountains to ski and a family member house sat for us. we were gone for 7 days, and we come back to this:

Two eggs a day from probably the worst laying breed.
in the middle of winter.
I didn't even get chickens for eggs, yet here we are...
how are your girls doing this winter?
tell me your stories!

It sure doesn't look like winter in your photos :) Nice egg haul!

I'm still waiting for my girls to get back to work after their long winter of lolling about. Not that winter is over here by any means.

I am swimming in eggs, lol....average 8 a day out of 10 birds (#11 is not laying at the moment as she is in icu inside for wry neck)....all first year layers. I always have first years in my flock specifically to avoid winter egg shortage

Your girls are adorable!!! And yes, we got 8 one day old chicks May 30th, we are getting 5 to 6 days each day! Just gave away two dozen last week and we have 23 eggs right now. We are having a warmer winter so far (mid 30’s for the high up to mid 40’s).
