I Have Shingles! ** UPDATE** Now My Daughter Has Chicken Pox! (Pg 10)

I had them about 5-6 years ago. I got 1 yes 1 blister!
It was on my chest and I kept getting a stinging/itchy sensation so I went to the Dr. He gave me a Rx for pain meds and said i was going to need it. I went back a week later for him to check it and he was in shock. Said he NEVER saw anyone get 1 blister and no more.
I got chix pox twice as a child so maybe I only had a little virus left in me. lol
I hope you are lucky and get a very mild case too.
I thought I heard that soaking in an oatmeal bath was helpful...anyone else hear this?

I've got them on both sides...mine are on my butt of all places!

So there are days when I can only wear a very long loose skirt. The first outbreak, or the first new spot, is the worst. You can get scarring if they come back to the same spot repeatedly. It's more of a dark discoloration.

BENADRYL BENADRYL BENADRYL!!! I can't stress this enough! It helps with the itching, it helps with the feeling that you are going to jump out of your skin. I usually end up taking about 3 at a time when I have a serious outbreak. I am sure the stress of your DD's diagnosis brought it on.

I know what you mean about at least you know. We've been going back and forth for years about what my DD has. She was originally diagnosed with Asperger's but each new school says it's something different. It does help to know what you are dealing with and to find a support group. Go to this website...this is THE best area for information about what you are dealing with. http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/

Good luck!

Ouch!!!! I am so sorry to hear that! It is so painful due to the inflammation of the nerve pathways. I have a back condition that they liken to post herpetic shingles pain and one of the things that I find helpful is to beef up on water soluble b complex vitamins, most easily found at the grocery store as a stress guard formula, usually with zinc. Again, with any virus, anything you can do to help your immune system is a good thing.

Take care of your self!!!

My daughter was diagnosed with autism at age 12(!) We have found that we have to find alternative routes to our desired educational destinations. And, we have to be patient. You're a BYCer, a think outside the box type. That will help you work with your child.
I will keep you in my thoughts during this rough time.
All my best.

Hey DC

I feel so bad for you. I have had shingles 5 times now. Four in the last 2 years. I get them each time on the left side of my head, face, and neck. They really hurt. For me the pain lasted about 6 weeks each time with residual tenderness left over. I don't like to take pain meds because I have five children 10 and under and really want to be aware of what is going on. But boy when my DH got home I took them. I will tell you that this pain will pass......eventually. My doc and I have come to the conclusion that my body has worn out (even though I am only in my mid 30's). In the last 11 years I have been pregnant, nursing, or both (I usually only quit nursing when I was pregnant with the next child) plus I have been coaching soccer, working on community council, on the PTA Board and still attempting to maintain a household. Apparently rest is part of a needed regiment.

Hang in there. We will pray this passes quickly.

I haven't had shingles in the pass 6 months...I attribute it to the fact that I have been taking herbal supplements to help boost my immune system. I really have noticed a difference and seem to have more energy.

By the way...Antiviral meds do help lessen the severity of the virus...You should really get on some if you have not.

I have permanent hearing damage as a result of shingles. Not very common, but it happens. My flare up happened on face, in my throat and in my ear. The virus had settled on my cranial nerves. It hurts!!!! Now I'm paranoid about every sore throat. But I only had it the one time.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Get the anivirals, take baking soda baths and rest.
