awww, I feel for you, I had shingles once, NEVER want it again!
They say if you had chicken pox ever in your life you are more suseptible to the shingles.

My hurt like no ones business and on my mid section, but on my left side. I couldnt wear pants for a week it hurt so bad. Everything had to be loose clothes and no it doesnt scar you. Its like chicken pox, if you scratch them you could scar, but who wants to touch shingles, you cannot get past the hurt to scratch!!!

Oh jeez, the pain!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be nice if we can cut off that section of nerves where it hurts the most but most of us would be having inactive limbs left and right!

Why, oh, why, we must suffer?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soryy to hear you have them. I have never had them, but my friend had them last year. She swears that vitamin B helped her the most. She couldn't take any pain meds as she allergic. I know B is supposed to heal the nervous system. Try to rest and stay calm. We will be thinking of you. Micki

It was years ago that I researched this for my dad. The prevailing thinking - then anyway - was that extra B vitamins and Vitamin C will speed healing. He did recover pretty well.
Hope you feel better soon.

BTDT, not fun at all. The extra B vitamins, Benadryl or other antihistamines, zinc, immune boosters, antiviral meds, etc. are all excellent suggestions. One other trigger/aggravator that needs mentioning besides the aforementioned stress is SUNLIGHT. If you're in an outbreak or even THINK you might feel one coming on, STAY OUT OF THE SUN! Sunlight can trigger shingles outbreaks. I hope you don't have to deal with the post-herpetic neuralgia (residual nerve pain); it is NOT an experience you forget or look forward to repeating. Hope you recover quickly and uneventfully.
