I have to talk POLISH!

How funny we got something completely different when breeding the Crele to Gold Laced!
The original "crele" eggs I hatched were a hodge podge of every color imaginable so who knows what was in their gene pool. The Gold Laced I used in the project hatched from the original "Crele Project" eggs I had purchased, so chances are she had some crele genes in her to begin with. From that original hatch, I only hatched out one Crele type female chick. If I had hatched out more I probably would not have used the Gold Laced, and I would not be here today writing this.

Some things are just meant to be.

After hatching this rooster with red barring out of a cross between my buff laced bantam Polish rooster and my WC Chocolate Cuckoo bantam Polish hen, I have fallen in love the look of the crele markings and I'm thinking about playing around with different colors to see what I can get.

I got my eggs from someone here on BYC. They did not divulge that they where project eggs but I was very happy with my pair; Thing is....I paid a great deal of money to them to wait 6 mo before I received 2 doz eggs packed in rough shavings. Of course most where broken and air sacs detached. Only 2 viable eggs...1 hatched. I emailed for 2 weeks with no response..out of the blue I get a box that when I opened it had to take it outside because of so many rotten eggs. They sent 5 doz. most rotten..and broken only 3 viable eggs..1 hatched. Thank goodness I did get a pair. It was a nightmare though and I truly feel they sent the last ones on purpose. They never would respond to my messages or emails. Anyway....it still needed work so I continued the project on my own almost 3 years ago. Here are some pics. I still need a bit more red in my roos but think the 3 mo. old chicks growing out are going to have much more. The judge at the last show told me they looked good...just needed more red in the wing. These 2 little guys have the red wings!!

Diluted Crele..not sure if male or female yet...I think should be roo since it is just a diluted marking of the regular crele roo. With each generation they are becoming more what I am working for.

This is one of the 3 mo. old roos..he is developing more red which I needed.

Here is the red...always female

These are always females...I think with a bit more work maybe I will get a female close to what the crele roo looks like

I don't know what to call this one....it is a project within itself. I crossed my original crele roo with my GL hen. Quite beautiful and always females. A friend said she considered them lemon barred...I don't know myself other than I really like them.

So...that is how mine have ran. All the black and white "cuckoo" marked chicks grow up to be roos. All others are females. Now...this is what I am wondering. In the wild bird world males are always showy and flashy with bright colors....is this true with some chickens. From what I have gotten out of mine...it seems that way. The copper in the males does not show up til they are a bit over 3 months and gradually it gets brighter and brighter.
Well...that is my gang! What do you think JustStruttin?
Your birds are stunning!

I have Crele Penedesenca and Cream Legbar chicks which are both auto sexing breeds. The male chicks hatch with a white dot on their heads and the females don't. The Crele Polish should be able to be sexed the same way. Have you noticed if your males hatch with a white dot?

The problem I think I have is that my line has white in their crests which makes auto-sexing difficult. I have been trying to breed out that white but it keeps popping up. It is proving harder to get rid of then I had hoped. I am fairly certain that my line was not started with a BBR/barred cross. I don't think I will be able to achieve auto-sexing unless I introduce BBR into the line.

I have been focusing most of my energy on my crele laced project. The babies are not auto sexing, or even sex linked but I can tell the boys from the girls pretty early. Once the down falls out and the feathers start to emerge, the girls have a mille fleur pattern that eventually turns into lacing and the boys start getting barring in their tails.

Wow, gorgeous birds. Your roos look like Red Pyle with barring. Super cool. What do the girls look like? Yes, you should certainly work on that project.
