I have to talk POLISH!

I have a Polish bantam pullet who laid her first egg about two months ago and hasn't laid since. At that time I noticed one of the roosters was mating her, but they have not shown any interest in her since. Her egg was white and pointy. Does that sound right? Do all Polish lay white eggs? I'm pretty sure I know each of my hen's eggs since they are Easter eggers. This pullet is my only Polish. I've checked everywhere to make sure she doesn't have a secret nesting spot and I've never caught her hanging out in any of the nesting boxes. All of my other hens and pullets are laying fine. What does this mean? She seems healthy and happy. It's driving me crazy

Yes, they lay white. Odd that she laid one and gave up. All my Polish have been good layers but I've heard they're not the most reliable egg layer. Hopefully you'll get another egg soon, and it turns out she had a little stall getting started.

I have one who lays maybe 3 or 4 times a month...she was mistaken for a rooster for a long time... Another, a tolbunt is over a year old now and acts like she wants to lay but can't seem to get it work just yet. The other 3 lay mostly every day.

Congrats on the wins, and beautiful birds and chicks!

My Easter hatch ended last night, and I got myself several adorable Tolbunt splits (2 girls, 4 boys) as well as a beautiful sex-linked split ("golden" male) along with a couple other odd colors, gonna sell those soon. Will post photos hopefully tonight. This photo is of the first three that hatched out days earlier than expected.

as a note on the photo, the one on the left and also center have waaay too small of crests for my taste. I will either make do and improve until I get better splits or sell those fellas. The Gold Laced hens used don't have the best crests like the WCB, and the Tolbunt father has a small one, so, it's gonna be a long road. And I like big, full crests.

(Tolbunt splits are basically Gold Laced Polish with one copy of the mottled gene, it is there but you don't see any mottling)

In the mean time, my Valentine's babies are growing up -

Pardon the little bit of dirtiness. This one is basically a mottled Polish, little bit of leakage, but I might not keep it as it looks like its crest is going to have some solid white in it. I prefer that at this stage, the mottling pattern leave plenty color still left in the crest. I originally have no goal for a Mottled Polish, but I'm mainly looking to see how it matures. I couldn't get photos of the keepers in time, as it was getting dark and everyone had ran off to bed. This one was still out and about.

I am wondering. I had 5 Polish girls in the flock. I can't say any of them were super layers. I had moved 3 of them (4 years old) because they were hiding in the bushes all day. They were moved in with 3 youngsters. But they are now sooo relaxed, and happy, and not intimidated by anyone. Now I get from 3- three eggs every other day for a few months now. Sometimes one more on the odd days. My other two are still in with the main flock, not harrassed by anyone, but lay alot less, and for a shorter cycles.

I wonder , it seems they are happier in a smaller group in a pen. The pen is big, 20 x 10. So I'm thinking that being penned doesn't bother them, and they look so relaxed. I can't wait to get my 12 chicks to grow up and join them in an even bigger pen.

Maybe your Polish needs some Polish family and possibly their own domain. Seems to work for me.

it doesn't get much cuter then this....and they're so smart too! Look at the one in the back reading the carton! Another on the left, back is waiting to hear what it says!

I think they are very content in a confined area. I have always let my chickens free range and really couldn't imagine have chickens caged up, even in a large pen....until I got the Polish. I knew I would need to keep them separate because I'm breeding but once i realized that they are actually content to be in a confined space I sure felt better about it. I think that due to their limited vision that they do well in a more familiar area. I have 4 girls and they rarely miss a day! My first Polish that I had in my free range group was about 3 years old and she gave me about 3 eggs a week but she never hung with everyone. Pretty much stayed near the coop or in the barn, so I think you may be right about them feeling better in a designated space.
