I killed my first predators last night

Ya, probably racoons are overpopulated too. In my book shooting and most probably just wounding an animal cannot be anything but cruel. Predators are only following their instincts and don't know the difference between a wild rabbit and a chicken.

It isn't a matter of IF it is a matter of WHEN. Especially when you are dealing with raccoons..... and last I checked, those weren't endangered anywhere.

Well, my cats have to eat, I can't just not put food outside. I only put cat food out in the back last night to get them where I wanted. I still haven't found out how they got in, but we are working on protect the best we can. Until they took the chick, it was live and let live around here, I'm not going to just shoot an animal because it's on my property. But now it knew where it could get a nice chicken dinner and I knew it would come back. I didn't want that to happen.

I was shooting to kill also. I would never shoot to just hurt it, that is just cruel and wrong.

This is probably one of those times when I need to keep my mouth shut, but my fingers won't quit typing!

Any coon, fox, coyote, stray dog, or possum that comes into my yard WILL be shot and I don't care if they are just coming to eat my cat's catfood. They'll keep coming back and as soon as the cat food is all gone... they'll find the chickens. If they don't get into my very secure predator proof coops... they'll at least cause damage trying or kill my kitten or puppy for the fun of it! It is my yard, my coops, my cat food, and my chickens. Someone made the comment that they had only lost 2 or 3 chickens to predators. In my book, that 2 or 3 too many.

For those who are against killing coons and other predators, that's fine. If you don't want to kill your chicken killers... leave them be. I don't think anyone here is trying to sway you to change the way you deal with them.

Not exactuly sure, but was that a personal attack? You know how misplaced texans deal with predators? The same way anyone who protects his flock. I don't care how well my supermarket is stocked, this is my flock to protect. You don't like how we dispatch predators, then stay off this $#$% area of the forums. Looks like you are ignorant of the rules.

I suggest you folks read these rules again. I'm actually a bit tired of having to remind you.

*Although some ways are not considered ideal to some, it serves the purpose of removing the offending predator. If you have an idea or a helpful comment, please do reply. If it is a sarcastic comment about the disposal or capture of a predator, please keep your thoughts to yourself. We are not here to judge one another on methods or ways and means.

*Compassion will go a long way toward helping to educate and help solve someone's predator problem. No matter the reason, most members' birds are their pets and being a chicken doesn't make it less of a pet than a house cat or companion dog. Please don't lecture or hassle anyone about their losses. Glass houses......​
