My Coop
My Coop
My littles are growing up so fast! The three big girls have met them through bars and although don’t think much of them now, they will when the 4 chicks move into the big run with them. I want to make a temporary diy run separator for my omelet run, one with a door so there is simple access. How can I make this? Any ideas?

other question- I need to know if this coop is suitable for 7 chickens, it has at its max, housed 4 chickens perfectly. It’s not a safe coop if it’s on it’s own, but it’s inside a run so it’s perfect for us, but will it be perfect for a flock of 7?

What are the dimensions (not including the nesting boxes)? You want at minimum 4 sq ft per bird so for 7 you want a minimum of 28 sq ft. Of course bigger us always better.
I did look it up, since it was the easiest way to figure it out, and the snaplock coop (it’s a blessing to clean out because of the plastic lol) is around 21 square feet. I don’t know if that includes nest boxes but I would think it doesn’t. It’s a little on the small side but I have three roosting bars that each hold about 4 chickens. I dint plan to get more when we bought the coop so we didn’t intend it to need to fit this number. I think it will work though because it is honestly a great coop which I don’t think comes larger. (It says it hold about 6 large chickens)

I used to have the exact same coop, and no, it will not
house 7 chickens, unless they're all bantams.
ok, I don’t think I can do anything else other than possibly putting in another small coop for two. I could probably close in the area under the stand, addroosting bars and attach the two wall mounted nesting boxes I Don’t use,to the outside. Seems simple, but I still haven’t built the stand lol.

I thought all of those same things too, until I finally accepted the fact that the coop is ideal to house 4 chickens and no more.
The coop is not expandable, it is what it is. I finally sold mine and built a decent coop and run. You should consider doing the same. See my coop.

I fully understand. The coop I bought to house 4 chickens (one died of respiratory illness, and infections) and then housing 3 chickens, was a great coop for the job. But now with 7 chickens, even I was surprised that the website said it housed 10(probably not even that many bantams!) I will do my best to find something suitable. After all, I love my chickens.

i think my run is a great size, it isn’t a tiny coop run, and it’s the largest (I think) sizes omelet run. I’m in love with this run because it has kept my 4/3 girls safe Since last November when an attack of some sort, killed most of my 11 chickens, leaving only 4 (although luckily my favorite girl survived) since that day nothing has gotten into our run, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! it is definitely good for all 7 of my girls especially since they are most of the time, free range. (Except rainy days and other certain things)

I love your coop, very crafty, and well built. Unfortunately I am not the builder, and this Would come as a challenge for me! I will try to find one fit for 10 chickens (for future additions) that isn’t to big! I am aware that omelette sells tunnels that connect from the coop to the run, and That would give them lots more run space!

You might consider buying an 8 x 10 storage building from Home Depot. They come completely floored and with windows and they'll construct it on your lot. You can add roosts inside and nest boxes from Tractor Supply. I seriously considered doing this, before a friend of a friend offered to build what I wanted for a very reasonable price.

Great! I did consider that! I’m a bit shy when it comes to prices, but whatever for my girls
