I Want a Big Metal Sculpture of a Chicken for My Coop

Hi all, I have one too and LOOOOVE it! I will take pics tomorrow. My sculpture reminds us of our hen that died named Randy. Randy had many male tendencies as far as looks but was 100% hen. Anyway, I saw one of them in a local homegoods store but by the time I went back to buy it, it was gone. Then I remembered a local nursery had one and they sold me theirs.

I am not trying to cause any problems here. But being a local person who makes metal art work. Now while I do not currently do the type that the OP is looking for I still feel compleled to express how disappointd I am at all of the talk of going to the "import" stuff. Also keep in mind that any body can have the cookie cutter stuff but when you go to the local HAND MADE artist you can get CUSTOM work too!!!! Thanks for letting me have my little rant and hopefully it won't cause any problems. I also hope that you will be able to understand this a little better from the ARTIST'S point of view.

I am one of those who will always investigate and shop LOCAL if the price and availability are what I'm looking for, so I totally agree, CR!

Those of us who are pursuing the import option may not be able to afford custom work or locate the large type of metal sculptures featured in this thread, except through an importer.

I hope we've provided some ideas for you to get into designing and constructing large 3-D, predator-scaring metal roosters! I'm sure you'd have a ready market here on BYC.

Thank you Calista. I am pleased that you understand. The problem is the shipping / transport of those huge pieces. See I take my stuff on the road like to shows etc so I try to keep it all easy to move.

I received a reply today from Phil Crown, a metal sculpture artist, who says he could create what I'm looking for if I have $2000 for commissioning the work.

Um, since that's a little out of my price range, I'll have to hope Chicken Rustler can step up to the plate!

Mr. Crown did an amazing eagle and two pheasants that are featured on his website, for those interested:

A friend sent me some new contenders for my coop:

(From Vietnam): "Our guide explained that the chicken statue was erected in 1975 in honor of an old story involving a young woman who wanted to marry a man against the wishes of their families. She mentioned that Koho society is matrilineal, but it isn't entirely clear how that plays into this. At any rate, they finally decided she could marry him if she could find a special chicken in the forest. She died looking and, when the man came after her, he also died. It's not a very satisfying story, but I'll just assume it lost something in the translation."

(From Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte): This enormous creation in a Filipino village could be turned into an at least a duplex!

(Check out the size of the car in comparison.)

(And from Thailand): Nice local landmark for a chicken restaurant!

Anyone found any others I might be interested in that are a little, uh, CLOSER to home?

I am looking to commission an artist to create a metal sculpture of a chicken. This will be used to display in an office. I am looking for something not made of tin and painted. More of a chrome bumper, or silver metal of some sort. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are an artist that may be able to take on this project.
