I Want a Big Metal Sculpture of a Chicken for My Coop

Thanks so much for that tip! And they're in my neck of the woods so it wouldn't cost me a fortune to ship it!

I just sent an email inquiry about a "special order" and referenced this thread.

I'll post whatever answer I get from the company -- if they decide I'm serious enough to answer and not delete the message, LOL.

Thanks for the pix of the headless chicken and the one with the hat to add to my collection.

It's pretty amazing how creative metal recyclers can get!

I thought I'd post one more picture of a "roof rooster" made from salvaged junkyard parts:

And I would still welcome any input from metal fabricators out there about how I might go about commissioning a piece of yard art.

Calista,

Might want to get in contact with Chicken Rustler, in Ethel, Wa. He does metal sculpture. Some very nice stuff too. He is on the Washingtonians thread a lot and the Oregon thread. And he is a very nice guy too.

Those are some cool sculptures. I took some pics of chicken sculptures made out of willow branches when I was on vacation. These wouldn't be as sturdy or have the same industrial cool.

Hi Calista-

If you are down in the Portland area here's a few ideas for you:

One is local artist Travis Pond- . He makes fantastic animal sculptures and has had ones of hens and roosters in the past made from recycled tools, etc. I have commissioned him to make pieces for me before. His work is great.

Another is to visit a farmstead SW of Portland called Schlichting's Century Farms/Gramma's Place- www.gotbirdseed.com
. They have roosters of various sizes made from steel drums. Some are easily 8' high.

Lastly, there is a local nursery in Portland call Pistils Nursery- www.pistilsnursery.com. They have an approx. 5' high cast iron rooster sculpture that sells for 350-.

Good luck with your search. If you don't make it to this area I would recommend checking out all the local arts & crafts shows and checking in with a the local metal workers' guild.

LOVE your avatar! Did you paint it?

Thanks IMP Calista have you looked at my BYC page? Be sure to click on the Iron Imagery link on there. But I will say that I really haven't got into doing the full sculpture stuff most of mine is flat na some 3D.

Wow, lots of fresh ideas for me to explore! Thanks so much.

The willow branches give me an idea on how to recycle all that brush I end up burning or chipping -- hmmm...

I also see lots of possibilities what was used to construct that praying mantis -- how creative!

Good tip on contacting the art schools around Seattle and Portland and Phasian, many thanks for all the leads you provided! Here's the website for where I found my avatar (scroll down to the 8-24-09 entry). If you can figure out a way to contact the artist in Georgia (which I've never been able to do), I'm sure several people on this site would love to purchase prints of her two "nekkid women" chicken pictures.

Imp, thanks to you for the info on Chicken Rustler, and CR, I'm going to review your BYC page right now...

I'll report back with my results in case others are interested -- could be a neat side business for metal sculpture artists out there!
