Icelandic Chickens

Adorable babies. I'm going to reserve my rooster judgement for a few weeks.

I love the babies that stand up, but fall asleep with their heads on the ground - it's too cute.

HE WAS DELICIOUS!!!!

He looks delicious, my DH is always after me to make any kind of soup.

Sometimes with chicken noodle soup, I'll also take a small bantam egg (always looking for uses for extra eggs), beat it and then stir the soup right at the end while I trickle in the beaten egg. It gives a little extra body and protein to the broth, like egg drop soup. If you put in too much, it ends up like egg stew (

), but a small egg in a big pot of soup is perfect.

lol i know.....it was Jake that said "only one rooster?" and i have already asked Kelly for her address so i could send the extra roos to her...i'm still waiting for it

the first one to hatch was the lightest yellow with the big wide white stripes on its back. i'm betting that is a roo because it is Frakkur (unafraid/bold) for sure!!! still waiting on the others

what did y'all think about the hypothesis about the crested birds and the black dot of feathers above/behind their combs or am i way off base?

Brad
I haven't seen a relation to the dot with crests....in fact, I know of a couple that had the dot but no crest. I wish I had documented more of them with pictures. You'll be able to see signs of a crest before too long if they're going to have one.

Here is a crest for you.......Egla Eik at almost 5 months....(and remember, I did not have a hen with a crest when I started)...

Wow, you guys have been busy. I'd better go back and see what I missed after I get this posted!

I promised pictures of my speckled Icelandic pullet. Here they are, at long last:

And, here's a video I took, since it was getting dark and she didn't want to face the camera.

Link to the video, in case it's being naughty:

I am just paranoid that somehow, my beautiful little Icelandic will not be an Icelandic

She is cute! I love when chickens have that feathering. When ever I go to shows I always spend a couple extra minutes in front of those bird's cages

Thanks! I am dying to get some of her eggs and start hatching them.

So is it my imagination or do the primary wing feathers grow in fast and long on these chicks? I can't remember that the other chicks I raised having them this quickly

I don't remember if mine had long primaries, but I do remember noticing how well-developed and delicate their wing feathering was at just a week or two of age. So......could be with some of them?
