Icelandic Chickens

I am not planning on ever hatching the offspring of the Icelandic/Silkie mating. Besides it being an unholy alliance and a possible poultry atrocity of epic proportions, I want to keep the breed pure and not be one to experiment. The Divine Miss M has no idea she is not sitting on her own offspring. By the time she and the babies figure it out they will be so over it anyway!

Naw, I knew you wouldn't hatch those.

What do the yellow chicks look like when older? Is that first picture of one that was a yellow chick?

Mary.......The pullet in the first picture is gorgeous! As for the dude, I'll pass on that little troublemaker!

You're bound to have a nice boy in all those chicks, I'll take one of those!

And I hate to tell you, but my rooster sings the egg song too. He does it whenever there's a threat or one of the girls sings. His isn't horribly off key though, that would be funny!

I bet your neighbors just love him!

I am going to give you a little time on the dude because I am quite certain you will change your mind. He is going to be gorgeous and crested! Trust me!

No the first one was not one of the yellow ones. I'll bring a couple of those up for pics tomorrow. They are white now with colored feathers just coming in. I think these two may be my only crested ones from this batch but maybe they can develop the shorter crests later. They move so fast it is hard to get a good look. Here's an overhead view I shot today.

Here's a better picture of the twelve teens. Please ignore the Brahma and GCM.

Here's a little roo that was yellow at hatch, then white, now getting bronze feathering like Isi.

Here's a cute little hen that started out chipmunk patterned. She is just developing a crest.

I just love these birds!

Here are my twelve babies hatched from a different line than mine from Sigrid.

Here are the three hatched by my broody silkie.

I think I have 30 Icelandics now, but they are hard to count! (Minus the little crested roo that Kelly bought!)

You just won't give up on that crested guy.

You're determined that he's getting his parole notice.

Are you going to tag the new ones from the different bloodline? I imagine with all those yellows you've hatched, they're going to blend in after a while.

I am going to put leg bands on the older ones from the Sigrid line. I only have #7 size bands and they come right off the babies. By the time this is over you'll be begging for that little roo!
