I don't know how you can stand that heat all the time.

16 boys to pick from? Nice.

Mary, Glad to hear the little buckling is doing better!

That brown chick with the white wing tips is stunning..

.....I hope Shawn will keep us posted on what it's grownup feathers look like!

Kathy, My two daughters saw a silkie at the children's zoo in Little Rock and called to asked me what kind of chicken had "fur" and a "poofy head and feet"

They asked why I didn't have any like that..... I tried to explain they're not "my type"....maybe I'll just tell them to read your posts!!

I can't believe you let little Stella go....................

Mahonri, It was 96 here today too!! Seems you are meant to have lots of boys......inside and outside!!

Anna spent last night in the Ice House with Audun and the SLW. Her chicks were a bit lost without her but went to their little coop like the troopers they are. Today I got an egg from her!!

That's a great turn around from laying, to setting, to hatching, to laying (8 weeks). Tonight she didn't want to go in with the chicks but didn't want to go in the Ice House either. The SLWs pick on her, bunch of meanies.

I ended up letting her in with Asta and chick, her on the perch, Momma and chick on the floor. They both seemed happy with the arrangement.....they were hatched together by Mary and have always hung around together except for this broody time for the two of them. I'll put them both out together in the morning.

And.............Chickie Mama is broody again!! Just in time for the eggs from Mary to be "finished" by her!!!!

I gave her 11 eggs, some Icelandics and some Ameraucanas.

Come on Chickie Mama.......work your magic!!

That's a lot of roosters Mahonri! I don't know how you deal with the heat there.

Congrats on Chickie Mama being broody again Other Mary! Broodies certainly come in handy!

Thankfully, no silkies coming my way - Kathy doesn't have my address. I'd take just about anything from Kathy's girls but NOT the silkies. (I don't think they're even chickens)

I can fix that! Ship them to me and I'll drop them off in her coop when she's out running errands.

My daughter can find anybody. She's a skip tracer and repo girl. She repossessed the truck for the catering service I always used so she would call and see if I had anything scheduled before sending the tow truck out to get it. If I did, she would wait until after my function! I can call her if we need to. Just sayin'

Still just the 17 chicks but I am sure one will not be well enough to ship. One more has pipped and two others show movement. I am hoping I wake up to three more running around in there all fluffed up! The good news is I went to my first aid kit in the barn and I have Gro-Gel! Not a lot, but enough to send with the baby chicks!

How can ya not have at least one silkie?

This year is the first time that I have had a broodie silkie, she is a mean thing too. Prior to this I ended up with silkie roos and no hens. So in a year or so I may be singing the same tune.
