Icelandic Chickens

I only have two hens, both hatched first week of May 2010 by The Warden, shipped to me in June 2010. Each has been broody twice so far this year. One is currently raising 10 chicks that were hatched July 30/31. The other just weaned her 11 chicks (hatched July 13/14) and I collected an egg at lunch that she laid today. I wouldn't be surprised if she went broody again, she laid for 3 1/2 weeks before going broody the last time (I was collecting her eggs for a while and then put them in the incubator, then left whatever she was laying each day in the nest. When she went broody, I took the eggs from the incubator and put them under her when they were near hatch, took her newer nest of eggs, put them in the incubator and gave them to the other hen when she went broody (after weaning her single chick and laying for about two weeks). They each sat the full 21 days with their first brood but only had less than a week for their second ones since I had incubator eggs to give them. Don't know how typical this is but I'm hoping to have broodies raising everything next year!!

That's hilarious Mary! Michael is still in bed. They had a 9:30 a.m. tee time and he sleeps till way after noon! He went with his Dad. They play golf wherever they go.

My girl has been "without a rooster" for months and still looks this way.

Wow! If not caused by roo, what caused that? Obviously if caused by a roo it would still be bald for months until they moult. Did she escape from a predator????​
