I think my 4 little ducklings put my order back a week or so. The lady said that she put in the earliest date for the BEIs as possible, since I guess they are seasonal layers.

My Ideal birds were hatched April 9th, 2008. Of the 23 birds I ordered for myself -

Two were DOA.

Three roosters - 1 buff, 1 light and 1 dark brahma - went to live with a neighbor. All are healthy and beautiful.

One roo, a light brahma and two hens, a light and a buff, went to live with a friend. All are healthy and beautiful.

I had one dark brahma hen die of an apparent heart attack last May.

That leaves me with 14 brahmas, a roo and 13 hens - 4 lights, 5 buffs, and 5 darks.

All are beautiful, hardy and healthy. I have never had a moment's illness with this flock. *knock on wood*

Lil' Bit is blind in one eye; I suspect a pecking to the eye in the brooder. Lilith has trouble from time to time from eating non-edible objects. Maggie turned out to be a bantam buff brahma, but a very nice one.

All in all, I love Ideal. You aren't going to get SQ out of any hatchery. You can get very nice birds for a backyard flock.

Booked mine last week, to be shipped March 3rd. The lady told me they were trying to book all the reserved orders first. If you look online some are already booked thru March. I am adding to my flock: 25 Dark Cornish,20 Dorkings,10 White Giants, and 8 Pilgrim Geese females.I have ordered from them in the past and have been very pleased!

I tried to do order my last week and they said they couldnt do spring orders till the end of Jan, then they sent an email saying 1/13 and then another email on Friday saying they were doing spring orders.

Last year I was very pleased with quality and health of the birds. The two silver Wyandottes are very pretty, while the one from McMurray looks more like a Barred Rock on an acid trip. I have to admit, Ideal did ship what look like 2 buff orpingtons instead of 2 buff brahma bantams. They definitely aren't brahmas or bantams, but they are buff
