Ideas for preventing chickens from flying out

That sounds great. We have a lot of wild life around us and in particular a lot of hawks. I don't want to put a top on it but I will feel better knowing that we have one. I will have serama chickens on one side and they don't win any fight n

I have a lot of hawks but I'm OK with the tradeoff for the large space.

Each person has to decide what risks they're willing to take.

This is the sort of netting a lot of folks on here use: https://pinnonhatch.com/poultry-supplies/p/heavy-knotted-poultry-netting-2mesh . They offer different strengths and opening sizes but the 2" heavy with 85/245 break/burst rating is probably the most commonly used.
This is what I have. And I have it over 2 lengths of the same electric netting as @3KillerBs. Works great (so far), and I have pretty much every chicken predator you can think of in these woods.

What kind of predators do you have?

I would suggest what several people have already said and having at least a foot deep skirt for the run and I would use rat wire on the outside rather than chicken wire all chicken wire will do is keep the birds in it won’t protect from predators.
Also, do you have the option of building a proper roof on the run instead of just netting, netting will keep the birds out fine but anything bigger could go right through it.

My dad, son and me built a new coop for our new chickens and we are going to put their exercise yard together this weekend. We are using dog run panels with chicken fence on the outside of each panel to prevent them from sneaking out and predators from getting in. With a 6 inch skirt to keep the predators from digging in. We were going to put chicken fence across the top to keep them from flying out and the bad guys out. Does anyone have a better idea for the top of their

We use netting on top and then decided to add a roof 6 ft. is green to give shade and then 6 ft. is clear to give light. Most of our predators are hawks and eagles so we had no choice but to add a top. So far so good.

Sorry for the late response, I didn't see your post. Our chicken house is under a tree. So it gets both sun and shade. We have two main predators hawks and cats. The tree has provided camouflage from the hawks but we had install a lot of chicken wire around the run and on top to keep the cats out.

It has been over a month and no predators have gotten in.
