Welsummers. They are dependable layers of beautiful dark brown, sometimes speckled eggs. They're well mannered, and you can tell Male from female when they hatch.

The question is simple: if you could only keep one breed, whether or not you have it now, which one would you choose? I realize that this is a hard question, as a lot of people keep different breeds for different reasons. But the fun questions are rarely the easy ones.

Cochins hands down. Of all the chickens we have, she is by far my favourite (and technically mine so much that she lives in the house with me). LF or bantam, either way!

Cream Legbar! Ours is the most sweetest thing, I swear she thinks she’s a dog. She will stand at our feet waiting for us to pick her up or sit down so she can sleep in our laps. She lays the largest of our eggs, a beautiful blue!

Blue eggs, fun personalities, crests, sexable at hatch etc. We don't raise for meat so they're pretty close to the perfect chicken for us.

Honorable mention to silkies, orpingtons, barnevelders, and leghorns.

Yes same here! We have one Cream Legbar and she is pretty much our pet dog
