I'm ashamed to admit

I love maple syrup

Anyone tried drizzling maple syrup in the snow and have your own Maple candy????????????? Delicious!

I love the real stuff too, except that I'm always disappointed that it's kind of thin and doesn't stick to my pancakes like the fake stuff does.
And, I'm a bit surprised that none of our southern folks have mentioned sorghum syrup. I know that it's sometimes called molasses, but it isn't really from cane syrup lke molasses is.

Molasses is made from sugar cane or sometimes sugar beets.

Sorghum is a different plant that people not from the south often call sorghum molasses though it is not derived from the sugar cane plant. Sorghum is a plant used for animal forage and silage and the natural sugars were harnessed for a sweetener.

I hate the taste of sorghum. It is one of those things you have to be born eating or acquire a taste for. To me it has an undertone of baking soda/powder that I can't get over.

I would totally love to plant some maple syrup trees here in the south.. so I can tap them.. does anyone think that they would grow???

No, smom, they won't grow in the south. I beieve they need to go dormant and cold, that's maple syrup time!
