ok thought turkey was female. First poult displayed at age of 3 months.
So definately male. Waited on second poult- only a month younger-didnt display so i thought ok female. Then end of month 5 displayed to its bro twice- so male - ok not a problem. Now for the last few nights this 7 month old has decided to take over my broodie silkies 5 fake eggs- as far as i know its only at night. I will need to check during the day tomorrow to see if this is just a night time happening.
Question- could this actually be a female???? A sweetgrass turkey

View attachment 1219601 RIP. My mr gobbles just keeled over and died. Yesterday he looked a tad off- poop good- eyes clear- no sign of respiratory issues- just not as hungry.

Checked on him this morn 6:30 he ate well. Was just in coop and he pooped and it’s cocci! Changed all the wAters and re filled with high dosage of acv and gave him meds. Within 3 mins he died!
Wham!!!
Do not mix ACV and meds in the water.

Hard to see from that picture, but it looks like a hen. They will also fan and display - especially in pecking order disputes.

I dont know how other turkey moms do it. I was warned theg are hard to raise - but this is heart wrenching- that was the sweetest tom!!! I just got lurkey - the one im not sure is m/f- over an bacterial crop infection! That came on so fast! Now this!!

Is this better?
I wondered if they displayed!
Couldnt find info- first time raising turkeys. Ma silky is ok, i gave her a fake egg - tomorrow her own box.

You need to show us a side view of the whole turkey standing up and a front view would also be helpful.

As @sourland said, hens can and do display just like the toms do. Hens can also have beards. Based on the small caruncles and the slight mohawk your turkey does appear to be a hen.
