I totally understand that! Back in the day, my husband and I had to go to his family's house, my dads house, and my moms/Mamaw's house all in one day. I always made a dish for each place and dropped them off then made the lunch, late lunch and dinner rounds. One year I went to my Mamaw's house (that is where lunch was when my Mamaw was alive) first. We ate (who isn't going to eat their Mamaw's cooking??) stayed a little too long I guess because when we got to my dads house the the step monster was pissed! When I only put a spoonful of each dish on my plate she got upset and started raving about how I liked my Mamaw's and moms cooking better (DUH?) and that I was being rude. So, I said, no this is being rude, this will be our last Thanksgiving here...we try to accommodate everyone in one day and all you can do is complain about it...so we won't be back....and then we left.

Over the years both my parents and my beloved Mamaw have passed away as well as my husbands father. So, for Thanksgiving, we stay home in our PJ's and I make some outrageous dinner (Prime Rib or Rack of Lamb etc and make a cheesecake or Tiramisu or chocolate cake etc.). We drink wine, have snacks and have a movie marathon and just enjoy relaxing. The next day I take leftovers to his mom and sister. Life is way to short to spend it with people who don't like you or you don't like (yes...even if they are family)...I'm not someone who can pretend to like people when I don't...mercy the holiday stories I could tell! LOL!

I think my hubby and I might just make a similar new tradition.

We just hit 1000 posts!!!! Tina, you are the lucky winner! (I will send you one of my tiny torpedo eggs, lol!)
Thanks for the congrats! I have been freshening up my nest boxes with shavings and crushed lavender buds. I don't know if it helps, but it smells nice and is pretty. :)

:clap for 1000

When God was handing out "patience", I thought he meant "patients" and said "no thanks, I don't want any."...just saying ;)

:lau that is sooo "me" too!!

My sister is having Thanksgiving this year, Lord help us all! This is her invite!

Are you adventurous? Do you like to take risks? Thrill seeker maybe?
If you answered yes to at least one of the questions, then I gladly extend my invitation to you,to be present at my residence ( where I live this year ) this Thanksgiving 2017.
Do you eat out of reused butter containers? Chinese take out containers? Or, how 'bout those KFC little dish with red top? (Great for condiments by the way )
If so, then you will feel right at home.
Bring the chitlins' ( children ‍‍‍). I have a big area for smokers, it's called the outside.
Menu is simple. Basic staples that the indians & pilgrims had. Why? Cuz I'm just as broke as they were.
Now, for those who might not already know..... It's been rumored I'm not a great cook. If this worries you, pack a a lunch for back up.
Please bring drinks for yourselves and your rug rats. I also advise you to bring something your kids can play with ( and I don't mean crayons or markers )
So stop in. We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll talk about each other behind our backs.
Hope you stop by and remember ........
Gifts for the hostess is always accepted
( cash is good )

LOL!!!!! That is awesome! What a sense of humor!

I had a picture of them peeled (they were so hard to peel! I know, because they are fresh) and I accidentally deleted it, as I have a stupid, archaic flip phone. So there is no picture of them boiled and peeled.....

But here is the finished product! :)

Look how beautiful and orange those yolks are! I cooked them for 3 minutes, but I guess that was too long for those little beauties, as they came out semi-hard-boiled. I ate them up with some salt and pepper on a bed of crushed up matzoh, and they were very delicious, nonetheless! I don't know if they tasted like a thousand bucks! But they were yummy. And they tasted like love. :love
Thank you, beautiful chickies! I decided, crazy chicken lady that I am, that as a "thank you" I am going to make them some warm oatmeal for this chilly day. :)

That breakfast looked mighty good. Nice bright yolks! What a good mom to make oatmeal for the girls for breakfast too!

Butterbutt! I love that name! All y'all hussies sitting around eating eggs while I'm looking at three bald fannies and two absolute duds! Exiteing morning a squirrel got in the coop, they didn't kill him "was definitely a him" but they did nearly pluck him bald. Poor guy is going to be cold for quite a while. :)

Glad the squirrel got away with it's hide! hahaha I used to leave the coop door open, but pretty sure I saw a squirrel scurry out of the house. Now I only leave the pen door open. Of course, the squirrels can use the little pop door, but a bit less likely to.

Wow, she must just really love to do the dinner and I imagine you like to eat. :) I don't have any kids "except the neighbor's that might as well live here,"so thanksgiving is loading up and going to the mother in law's house. I'm not exactly any of the inlaws favorite so I'm pretty happy to stay home.

That's about how it was when I was growing up. When I got older, I would cook my own entire Thanksgiving feast at home and package it up for the freezer. It's my favorite meal of the year. Nobody else seems as appreciative of turkey as I am.

Since I moved to Missouri, my friend and I share the holidays. One of us will do Thanksgiving and the other does Christmas. I don't have children, just elderly handicapped parents. I decided that this year I am using those awesome Thanksgiving paper plates and tablecloths. :lau First I thought -- will this be tacky? Then I decided that with the crowd of 16 or 17 that's coming it will be appropriate.

Will catch up tomorrow, but my granddaughter made her appearance at 4:46pm. She's beautiful. I'm a happy camper tonight :clap

CONGRATULATIONS GRANDMA! :love

I don't know what the temps were last night, but about an hour ago it was 26 degrees. Glad I finally put the heated dog water bowls out. Gotta go weigh, candle and mark my incubating eggs. Gotta make some babies to grow up with my lone baby Eve.

My Easter eggers are buttholes, they're both sneaky mean. Very pretty eggs, but until that dominicker kicked her butt Bea my beaster egger "buff Orpington and ameracuna" was absolute hades on wheels. They both are jumpy as all get out. :)
LOL beaster egger. I love it!

Congrats!!! Hope everyone is doing well. We'll try not to be offended if you aren't spending as much time on here now that you have a baby to love on.

I did that crap when I was married & it was horrible. We decided to alternate holidays and my ex would inevitably start a fight when it was my family's turn so he could run off to his parent's house alone.. no doubt telling stories about how horrible I was. Then after my daughters were born I decided that it wasn't fair to them to drag them around all of NE Ohio for everyone else's benefit. We would go to one family on xmas eve & the other the day after xmas, but xmas day was for us to be at home together & for the kids to enjoy their presents. Now my kids and I have xmas at home, then in the afternoon we go to my parent's house for dinner. When my kids are w/ their dad I stay home alone, which sounds pitiful, but I love it. I'm not a fan of holidays & I'm perfectly capable of cooking for myself, but I'd much rather get a load of chinese or pizza the day before and eat left overs. Plus, no dirty dishes!

Your sisters is funny... I wonder if her back up lunch suggestion is code for bring something edible to share w/ the group. Either way, best of luck to you.

Fancy thanksgiving plates and tablecloth are never tacky! I buy one & keep it on until it's gross. My current fancy tablecloth has cacti on it.
It was 26 this morning here too.. and lightly snowing! I put out a heated chicken waterer yesterday. For $45, they better appreciate it! I had left the window cracked in the coop, but closed their door (raccoon worries) and decided to close up the window this morning. Everyone was alive and ready to go outside and play so I guess I was the only one freezing my butt off.

Life is way to short to spend it with people who don't like you or you don't like (yes...even if they are family)...I'm not someone who can pretend to like people when I don't...!

I really like spending the holidays alone now -- or with just a small, select group.

My first mother-in-law and I adored each other -- and we stayed close, even after I got divorced.

Current MIL hates my guts. I came into everything open minded and nice, hoping to get another gem MIL, but no..... she's been awful from day 1. Seven years in, when she was shouting at me to, "Just shut the eff up and get back in line! Nobody asked you!" while we were at a restaurant, it took everything I had not to slap her face and leave. I was officially done at that moment.

It's been SOOOOO nice to be free of *that* crap. I'm off the hook for any and all gifts for her, any reminder phone calls ("it's your mom's birthday. Did you call her?"), and holiday dinners or friendly visits.

Waaahhhhh. Whatever will I do without that overcooked, tasteless canned spinach that she serves with every meal???

(Seriously? I grew up in California, and never ate canned spinach in my life!!! I almost barf just looking at that brown glop on my plate! It looks like something my dogs hork up!)

Being a California transplant in Oregon, I really like to barbecue Korean short ribs and have margaritas on Thanksgiving, then buy my turkey the next day, when they are SUPER cheap, and cook it up (on the barbecue, of course) later.

I'm barbecuing ribs, and hiking with my dogs that day!

Wow...I would have smacked her...or at least cussed her out and there would have been no way I would have stayed!

Canned spinach?? Uh...no thank you! That is nasty! I like fresh spinach...and I'll use frozen in a spinach artichoke dip...but canned, that isn't every happening!

At least you don't have to be around that horrible woman anymore! Your plans for Thanksgiving sound fantastic! I rarely make Turkey for Thanksgiving anymore, I let my husband pick what he wants and I make it. He hinted last night that he might want the Blackberry glazed quail I made a few years ago...so we'll see as the day gets closer.

Maybe I'll have an egg by then and I can break out that hot glue gun and get crafty! LOL!

We should all post pictures of our Thanksgiving meals and tell how our day was! There might be some entertaining stories ;)

Correction, not crochet, it is embroidery. The word just would not come to me. But if you're interested, here's the link that peaked my interest. Now i need to do some more for this Christmas.

Apparently I missed this. Holy wow, I don't even see how it's possible.

I think your MIL is my xFIL. What is wrong w/ these people? On my wedding day he jokingly acted like he was going to push me down the steps at the church.. the catholic church. SMH I didn't realized it, I was watching the photographer, but people told me about it later. He was horrible and knowing that my husband was having an affair with anyone willing said I should abort my youngest daughter. I don't miss having to deal with them and pretend they aren't there when they come to my kids events. I keep waiting for them to retire and move south like they kept saying they would. Then hope that my ex follows them & my kids and I can have a normal happy life w/o their interference.
