I'm new and one of my eggs is hatching and needed a Lil help but...

Nothing to measure it but my skin to be honestly we are actually poor at the moment and could only afford a small thermometer it's digital I'll update everyone on my set up soon I'll show u one thing I have that might work for measuring humidity but I'm not sure it works I'll explain soon

Gonna get kids to bed and set up my brood to be ready tomorrow
My incubator works other than that end humidity issue I'll work on it I'll take suggestions but remember I'm poor I used what I had I'm very limited but I'll post pics of it and explain my set up and the brood I build too be back ASAP guy then so.much for the help
I am a night owl so keep the updates coming and you don't need anything fancy to hatch and care for chicks....simple works

I feel a Lil embarrassed about my set up n mistake but I will be sharing anyways because I found it hard to find info I could use in my situation and I wanna be helpful for others
I literally used what was available to me I'll explain it all and show pics I know it's flawed but for every part of incubation it's working great I had candled eggs I set myself and I know the day for sure and the vessels are massive and the movement is very active and b6 massive vessels I day that cause put of the many many many videos I saw I never saw vessels like that I'll try to see if I can get a pic but I use my phone light to candle
I had been using a led small pocket flashlight but it wasn't as good as my phone so I gave it to my boys

My incubator is made of a cardboard box
Tape
A digital thermometer
And old lamp cord n a light bulb of 70watt bulb (it's all I had at the time)
An old computer fan
A see through clip board for filling out paper work ad a viewing window
And I taped the b I gs old play mat puzzle piece this gs to the outside as insulation I even used mega blocks to make a holder for the big metal bowl in the bottom for humidity
I figured with the bowl it was surface area that mattered not quantity of containers
So to increase humidity I figured it would work to fill to bowl more cause the bottom is small and the top is wide I can't get a pic of it without removing the last item to mention and that's the plastic crate thing I cut in down so the bowl is under it and the eggs sit on top and that's about it

I cut holes one one each side of the viewin window enough to get my arms in (like in bubble boy how his mom has the arm things to hug him lol) I did this to minimize the temperature change when I needed to turn the eggs I do it manually and to place new ones in
I also poked some air holes here n there not that I need them as the top never stays closed 100%
As is a flaw with humidity I'll work on
iI'll Post Pics In About 30 Mins Of It All
Sorry about error n stuff my phone screen is broken and hard to deal with

I'm a night owl too I go to bed between 1 am to 4 am I have issues lol but ur very right it doesn't take much as ppl will seee with my very shabby Bator :')
And since your broody duck stopped sitting on the eggs...they would not have survived at all without your making an incubator! Increasing the surface area of water raises humidity if you feel you need more. But since the egg with the membrane exposed is staying moist...you are probably ok! Just make sure your hatching chicks can't accidently fall into your water source in the incubator...just read the bowl is under the grate floor so no worries there!

She or he is on her way the vessels have cleared up and it's staring to rip through the membrane more noting new with the piped egg I'm sure it's resting
Also I finished candling gently and without turning and I have many internal pips and the rest trying at it only like 1 seems to be very slow and will most likely by my guess be a extra day
Also I had been placing eggs in as they were laid n here is the results from what I just saw
There has been a total of 40 eggs land by my hens I placed in the Bator of the 40
7 are to young to tell (should be 8 but a hen didn't lay today)
Only 1 had died and I was at day 3 so early I'm glad I would feel bad if it was later I still feel bad but I feel like it would be less horrible for it
And I have confirmed good cells and vessels and movement in the other 32 eggs
10 of those are the ones my duck had and are due over the next few days but the rest were placed in starting from the 20th and every day since

Actually I was wrong .. more like didn't think about it much but I did remove a few eggs as they were yolkers and had nothing happening by day 6 even I waited a few extra days to be sure
BBut for my shabby Bator I feel the death rate is very low
If only I could fix the hatch day humidity issue I'll be happy with its full performance

It is I made sure about that I am a very nervous person also I love my chickens :D I do feel terribly about what I did to this Lil baby but I am so happy n relived to see its gonna be OK (I think so anyways sure looks it) I have to 5hank the wonderful lady who suggested Vaseline I forget whom said it I could look back to see but I'm being lazy phone is low on battery
But Tha k you because u saved this chicken she or he was getting cold and the cloth was not staying wet long enough it wasn't looking good but the Vaseline saved it and I haven't put more since I first applied it and it's doing very very well
