Sorry, that's a roo-the tail feathers are starting to sickle. It looks just like my silver EE roo and the tail feathers are exactly the same, so is the comb.

This is my 12 wk old EE cockeral. He started crowing at 7 wks, similar color, had a very red comb by 4 wks old so it makes me think yours is a pullet.

OK, I'm so totally confused. I will wait a couple of weeks and post photos. Maybe things will be clearer.

If it is a roo, he will be free to a good home, as we are not allowed roos here. It is a beautiful bird with lots of personality. I will be really bummed.

I still say pullet...getting ready to lay. Their combs start to plump up and redden when they are starting to mature at 12-20 weeks...so it is a common time to confuse their gender. All my EE's started laying at 12-18 weeks (but all breeds are different). I've had them lay at 6 months....my lakenvelders....and my Barred rocks...but my EE's were fabulous and started laying very early.

How about spurs? Do they look larger than a hen? Your pics do not show the legs very clearly.

Rest assured you'll know soon...

Gender is a tough call and every person you ask gives you a different answer. It can be frustrating.

Well, is your EE getting his/her voice yet? My EE is going on 3 months and is just getting her voice. Here's what she looks like. I started getting worried because her tail was growing out to look more like a roo, but she is talking like a girl... PLUS, no pointy feathers anywhere
