i'm SO ashamed!!!

My name is Dianne, and I am a store bought egg buyer.
There, I said it. I feel a little better getting it off my chest. My lil flock of 3 are all molting and look something terrible. No eggs since November 18th. I am sure missing their gorgorgeous eggs !
Dont you all find baked goods bake higher and fluffier w/ our own eggs vs from the store? I am refusing to eat any from the store for breakfast- just bought them to do some baking for the holidays.

Ummmm....I think you need more hens.

It's been weeks since I got more than one egg a day...I broke down and purchased store 'balls', yesterday.. Came home and found 3 eggs in the nestbox and got 2 eggs today... Saving MY eggs for eating and store 'balls' for baking..

I don't get enough eggs from my quail for us to use when we bake. So, I have to buy an occasional dozen. I "do" manage to get free range, vegetarian fed brown eggs from a local farm, though.

It's an improvement over other options.

We're in the same club

Last Winter was a really bad year for production (no eggs for about 2 months) and this year is looking about the same. We thought we'd do better with our younger hens, but no so much.

So, off to costco we went for eggs.

I didn't HAVE to buy grocery store eggs ..... well, technically anyway. I am a hatching addict. OK, yes, I admit it.... I put all my eggs in the incubator, and .... and .... and .... and I had none to bake with! My regular egg customers came by, and my daughter just nodded her head, and said, "I'm sorry. We have no eggs. My mother has lost her mind." Now, what is that all about??? Huhhh???

Yes, I too had to purchase eggs at the grocery.

lol. I went thru the same thing last year (had only 5 girls at the time and not all were laying)...so made sure to increase my flock this time around. Hopefully won't have to do that again. I even ended up throwing out about 1/2 dozen of the store bought ones once the holiday's were over and my girls started laying again cause I couldn't bring myself to eat those bland things.

My 13 girls have slowed down a little, but am still getting 5-7 eggs per day - keeping fingers crossed that I won't have to buy any eggs this winter!

I'm just curious, when you all have to resort to buying store-bought eggs do you spend the extra $ for cage-free/free range? Have your buying choices changed since you started raising chickens?
