I'm so old I Remember when:

I think Safeway still exists, I’ve heard my aunt who lives in California talk about it.
I love Safeway. We still have them in western Colorado. For now at least. 🤔

No, I’m actually from Michigan. I moved down to Louisiana for two years due to my father’s work and adopted it as home. The people are way more friendly and I like the culture (where else would you see a St Joseph statue in the grocery store?).
Cool. Yeah we alright down here. My wife is from Kentucky and it was kinda a culture shock. Mostly how people say hun, darling, baby, ma'am etc. And having the door held open for her lol. She has also adopted here as home. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

Safeway and Albertson's merged.
Albertson's went out of business in town many years ago.

Publix is still around unless it was spelled differently. There's one in Lakeland, FL where my snow bunny dad lives in the winter. Mom used to love that place, bless her soul.

My bad. Typos are getting more common... Especially at night. :( I grew up 24 miles south of Lakeland and had sets of aunts and uncles living in Lakeland. In FL he's not called a snow bunny but a snowbird. :) Restaurants love them. The original Publix headquarters and main office is still in Lakeland. FL now has three divisions for their stores. One in Lakeland, one in Miami, and one in Jacksonville. As long as George Jenkins lived all Publix stores had a sign on the front door for store hours. For Sunday it said closed. See you in Church. He refused to sell even beer. Not that way now. Way back then a store was founded upon the slogan "Where Shopping is a Pleasure". While all other stores allowed smoking in the stores Publix didn't. They kept the air fresh and clean for all. Publix still is generous with profits back into communities for education. Dorms for colleges and whatever needs in public schools.

When Albertson's and Safeway merged, they were required to only have one in the same town. Here they sold off the Safeway stores and kept Albertson's. If I want to go to Safeway I have to drive 60 miles to Douglas.

Where my brother lives they sold off the Albertson's and kept Safeway. The company that bought that particular Albertson's closed and it was reopened as Albertson's.
