His breath stinks, but not like sour milk. It kind of smells like the veg oil, but that's probably because he just had some.
Most likely. As long it's not smelly like sour milk, then it's not sour crop.
Maybe give his breath another sniff in about an hour just in case?

Sorry for my long absence, but here is an update. So, his mouth didn't smell like sour milk, but it did smell like rotten eggs. I tried some more of the suggestions on the articles posted but they weren't working. His comb started to turn black and he was regurgitating gunk. So I took him to the vet to get his crop emptied and from what the vet could tell he seemed fine. His crop isn't impacted, sour, doughy or anything. And their is no overgrowth of yeast as far as he could tell. For some reason his digestive system is functioning very slowly and it's causing his crop to fill up. Once the vet emptied his crop his comb has slowly started to turn red again. He's under weight for obvious reasons, and his digestive system runs slow. That's all we can tell without further testing (which I'm not sure I want to pay for). He ate wet food the next day and regurgitated some more. He is having regular bowel movements agian and the poops look normal. I'm going to put the crop bra on him tonight to see if that will help pass things along. 🤞

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what might be going on?

Another update. I think my rooster might be fighting off some kind of infection. After looking at his scan the vet noticed he has an enlarged spleen (which helps support immune function) and his upper gi tract seems to be constricted. I'm thinking it might be due to inflammation. I've got an antibiotic for him and will be massaging him more regularly to get things moving through his system. He is maintaining his weight around 5 lbs. So he's under weight but on the bright side he isn't losing any more at the moment. I'm also going to be putting the crop bra back on tonight. He always makes such a fuss about it but it's for his own good. Thank you for listening and the help you all have given so far.

Another update for those interested in my roosters progress. So, the antibiotic and a strong dewormer seemed to have done the trick. He also got some motility medicine to stimulate his digestive system, which also seemed to help. His crop has started to function like normal. He's been emptying every night for almost two weeks now. He's fluctuating between 5 and 6 lbs but still super energetic. I'm slowly trying to put more weight on him without backsliding. I'm really happy with his progress and I'm hoping it will continue.

On a side note, our bond has definitley strengthened during this time. He follows me everywhere, tugs on my clothes when he wants attention, and snuggles with me when he gets tired. It's so cute I almost don't want to give him back to the ladies, but his hens miss him and I don't want to deprive them of him any longer. So he moved back in today. There was a lot of happy clucking and crowing 🐓🐔
