Important: USDA census?????UPDATE!

Yep they are real. I get them every year. I checked with my extension agent the first time to be sure.

Hmm.. see now. I don't mean to sound paranoid but.. there is NO freedom from the gov't using your info however for whatever anymore. In this time of terrorism, they don't care. If they can tap your phones anytime they want, they can certainly get that piece of paper. I don't know about you guys, but there are some things that are just NONE of anyone's business.

If they only want the info for data, I guess I would be asking WHY it came with a name on it AT ALL. Why isn't it "to current resident"?

I don't know if you have a choice or not.. but if it was me, and it didn't come certified I'd throw it away. If they want the info that badly they'll send you another.. certified.

I didnt read up on this Nais yet, but from the perspective of a former resident of massachusetts where i was subject to all manner of census type questionaires and standardized test and the sort, just fill it out and send it back. it doesn't matter how you fill it out, cause they are never gonna come audit your farm to make sure you have the animals you claim or have what you didnt claim.

The one truely wonderful thing about beurocracy is that you can count on them to never do anything significant with the information they gather.

Just make sure you circle NO when they ask if you beat your animals. That sort of thing might raise an eyebrow.

Oh, and the census form will be from the Dept. of Commerce is my guess, which is why the form isn't on the USDA website.

The Dept of Commerce likes to threaten prosecution for non-compliance, but with other censuses this has proven to be an empty threat.

Truth is the Dept of Commerce has a real problem keeping data secure. Understand you are putting your privacy at risk by responding.

We have been talking about this on the New OKie (oklahoma Homesteaders) board for a few weeks now it is legit however the law they state is actually supposed to be every 10 years i believe. Thank goodness I just recently purchased my land and will be getting a stockade type fencing hopefully soon. I also purchase everything for the chickens and garden with cash only. We have been trying to figure out where they got the contact info for some of the people that just recently moved to country......talk about BIG BROTHER....OK if you are still listening to my rambling and you feel serious about your privacy look over the repulican canidates you may find someone shares your views..

the whole thing makes me very nervous.
i don't want the government telling me what and how many of any animals i can or cannot own, etc.
who knows why they are collecting this data. it could be for "good" but . . .
then again, i'm a little paranoid when it comes to government stuff.

We know exactly where one cow with Mad-cow-disease is located among millions and millions of cows in America but we haven't got a clue as to where millions of illegal immigran ts and terrorists are located.
Maybe we should put the Department of Agriculture in charge of Immigration.
