Impossible to find tree.

Yup. That's why we're undecided on where to put it, lol. The snowball will go on the corner of our parking area, but for stated reasons, we cannot put the mulberry near there. We also have two chestnut trees in the back, plus the garden is going back there. I really want it in the back and not in the front though! It may end up in the front though because of space and staining issues.

They have the dwarf weeping mulberries at "One Green World" for about $20-30 and I think they have them at "Trees of Antiquity" (if they don't have that at TOA they have the Contorted Mulberry which is also very cool.

I forgot to add: both of these mail order places come up when you google

The link doesn't have snowballs, but at least they have the weeping mulberries for an acceptable price! I didn't know that about snowballs, thanks a billion! Now I'll have to figure out what our soil is like out there. We already have the spot picked out for the snowball. Still working on the mulberry placing, since the mulberries do stain and attract birds (bird poop).

And allergies.

At least for those of us with seasonal allergies. Mulberries are GORGEOUS trees. Our neighbor has one behind us that hangs over our fence (it isn't weeping though). Unfortunately, they are a common allergen. Why is it that the most beautiful trees have to irritate allergies? If I can get the docs to do the desensitizing treatment for allergies, I would like to grow a mulberry tree and make mulberry pie!!

Unfortunately I am allergic to their visitors rather than the tree itself. They attract wasp too, and make me sick.

BettaCreek if your soil is alkaline, add oak leaf mulch to the soil, if it is acidic you can add dolomitic lime. That's just the easiest/cheapest way to ammend the soil for your planting, there are other ways as well. You can tell by looking at what grows in your yard a lot of times to know without testing the soil. If azaleas, buttercups, iris, wild blackberries thrive, it's acidic. I have all of these and asiatic lillies as big as a plate when they bloom! VERY acidic here! If I planted snowballs they'd all be powder blue

I think the Mulberry needs acidic soil too.

It is illegal to plant Mulberry trees in some cities. They are terrible. You just about have to give up breathing.

Male mulberry trees are fruitless; the female trees are a mess. The birds eat the berries and then poop purple all over the cars. If you think chickens can make a mess, wait until you see what happens when you add this tree to the mix. The birds poop mulberry all over the clothes on the line.

Also, the roots make a bee line to your sewer. That is a real joy, I can tell you.

Some of God's greatest blessings are unanswered prayers. Forget about this tree.

Now, about the Olive tree.....

Nope, I'm definately stuck on the mulberry. I'll have no substitutes. If worst comes to worse, I'll net it. Either way, I must have a mulberry bush.

I had to LOL remembering one apartment that we rented. It had a mulberry right outside the bedroom window and the cacophony in the morning was INSANE! The birds went nuts for that tree and woke us up at 5 am every day. Then there was the purple poop all over the cars, deck and line-dried laundry....

I had a gigantic one in my front yard that I cut down and it took three years to kill the stump, even after we stripped the bark around it, poured roundup all over the stump, hacked the roots... we finally had to just dig out the stump, cut the roots with a chainsaw, pull the trunk with a pickup truck and long chains. Then the roots tried to sprout up through the lawn. Just, wherever you plant it, make sure you REALLY WANT a mulberry tree there, I mean REALLY! The berries were good though, and the shade in the summer was fantastic. It threw off a semi truckload of leaves every winter and required yearly cutting back to the main branches. It is amazing the amount of growth they can put out in a single season. Maybe you can grind up the leaves, mix it up with your chicken poop and sell deluxe garden mulch... just saying... always gotta have a gimmick!
