In a word, how would you describe your garden as of today?

Wonderfull!
I dont do weeds.
I lay tarp down in spring and plant in X,s I have cut in the appropriate places. The tarp also holds in the moisture so i only have to water once a week or so.View attachment 2755587
I use the same tarp for years.
I have 2 garden spots one for tomatoes and the other for decorative mini gourds and pumpkins I sell to the markets in fall.

I tried plastic for the first time this year on about 1/4 of my garden (600sf). It has been a life saver. With so many projects happening at once, weeding the garden has been a chore i have delayed. The plastic and use of clover to drown out other weeds, my garden is now in great shape with the least amount of weeding ive ever done.

I must change my word to anticipation.

I dug potatoes over the weekend with much disappointment. I expected 100#s+ but got only 35. Big bushy plants with the majority being slightly bigger than golf ball spuds. A result of poorly worked soils (i put them in the worst section of the garden this year hoping they may help fracture the crazy heavy and hard clay) and too much nitrogen (dang chicken poop).

Oh well, the recent rains have my corn over 6ft, tomatoes are laden with green fruit, and all other plants are producing like crazy. But the main bean crop just got planted and the okra is only about a week away from getting pods. Oh what a month August is promising to be. I just hope it keeps its promise.

One word:

Wet

Ask me tomorrow and I hope my answer is not “flooded”.

My zucchini’s are flowering, I have about 100 GREEN tomatoes that can’t ripen fast enough, peppers and eggplants are flowering, and beans are just getting big enough to pick.

I will seriously be in mourning if this rain doesn’t stop...😞
I have like 20 unripe tomatoes peppers are growing like crazy even picked a handful yesterday and squash and zucchini and cucumbers have been blossomed forever....

In a word, I would say my garden is -- a hot mess. Next year I'm skipping summer besides maybe planting flowers and a few odd tomato plants. Too much rain, too much humidity, I can't keep up with the keeping things fertilized and now the bugs have shown up in droves.

Blech. Already looking forward to fall and spring gardening, which is okay because that means seed shopping :wee
