whites I know your strong, but they do get heavy and awkward just so you know!
At 8 lb/gal I think even this old man can handle it. If not, I'm going to have to start buying feed in 5lb bags instead of 50's.
I believe I saw that it fills through a bung in the bottom? Ever had the water pressure blow it out, or is it threaded?
I've perfected the art of quickly flipping similar containers w/o getting soaked...most of the time, so that's not a problem, either.

a hole in the side for the cord. It keeps the water from freezing and keeps the pen a lot dryer and cleaner.

Morning everyone! I'm finally one week away from our first chicks hatching and super excited, mama hens been doing such a great job. Though she is starting to look exhausted. Okay so my question is: Is there a safe way I can move mama hen and her eggs inside into the brood box before the hatch?

Right now she is outside in a laying/nesting box off the ground. And I would prefer her and thr eggs inside, it might be to cold for the chicks outside. And I don't want the other chickens pecking at the darling chickens either.

I was thinking of setting up the brood box with lots of cedar shake and moving her in there in the dark of night?

everytime I moved a broody too far she stopped brooding. wait until after is my suggestion! if you have to put a quick ring of wire around her, she should protect the chicks later on.

Thanks I'll see what I can do. Her box is only 12x12 so there really isn't a lot of extra room in there.
she dont need alot of room right now

Quote: I figured, but never know! read the directions because I didint lol.... you have to be careful flipping it never had a pressure blow out, only a dumb flip by on SallyAnn and got a mess in the coop!! practice first! lmao!

how to make removable perches for easier cleaning... No one use sticks unless they are at least as wide as a 2x4 in cold climates always use a 2x4 on the side to prevent frostbit toes!
