INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Congrats on the egg. Bottom one is EE right? Looks white in the picture. Sorry for your loss of the chick. Nice of Judy to replace it.
Thank you and yes, the bottom one is from my EE, Nutella. Its actually a really pretty blue/green color but my camera isn't as good as I'd like. She is the black and orange girl that is giving the camera the stink eye. I probably would too if I was the only girl in that group.

Thank you everyone about the chick, its definitely not nice, but I'm going to focus on the positive today. I sent a message to Judy last night and she is meeting me this morning with another girl. That is so nice of her. I can't tell you guys how much I like these little AS birds. They are the cutest chicks I've seen. Last night I spent a long time holding the little girl I still have (to be named later) and she is incredibly friendly. She hopped up into my hand and went to sleep on me.

If they aren't the cutest ever, please don't tell me because my coop is now full.

I hope everyone has a great day.

First day of traveling with 7 vehicles, 19 people, and 800 miles down; just 6 hrs more to go.
Only blew one tire so far, and hopefully will keep it like that!

Friends are coming over to gather eggs while I am away, and yesterday my friend came over and happily gathering eggs from my coop. Her husband looks in the basket and said that is the oddest egg I have ever seen. Lo and behold it was my 'decoy'....a ball for fuseball. Lol

Have a beautiful Tuesday!!

I should definitely have legbars available unless something extreme happens. As far as blrw, I've yet to see hem at the swap, but who knows! I'd be more than happy to hatch some for you, but unless we waiting and grew them up, I wouldn't be able to sex. Hopefully in the next month or two ill have my breeding pens set up, ready for spring hatching.

I've sent a message to babymakes6 and crazypetlady but haven't heard back yet. I don't want to raise a chick alone so I'll probably wait until next spring. We'll see what happens. Could I perhaps take you up on the offer to hatch some BLRW next spring? I have a good friend who wanted to get one as well. Maybe we could even time it with the hatch of some your legbars so you're not doing a separate hatch just for me.

Racinchickins has a BLRW rooster he did not need yesterday.
I'm trying to stay clear of roosters. Already have one and it seems like you always end up with more than you wanted anyway.

Thanks though!

Check with Babymakes6 and crazypetlady. One has the Cream Legbars and the other does the hatching. Their prices are reasonable. Babymakes6 is just south of Fort Wayne. Send her a PM and she'll send you the price list and all the info you need.

ETA: I must have been typing the same time as brad...didn't see his post until I posted this :D

Thanks, I've actually sent them a message to see if they have anything available.

I've discovered just how dumb my guineas are. It's a good thing they are so pretty. They are really good at just following the chickens around, which is a plus cause I don't think they'd ever find their way around without them. Yesterday I heard them enter into their "sky is falling" mode and went outside to check it out. Low and behold my chickens are in our yard where they are supposed to be and the guineas are running circles around my neighbors coop trying to get into his chickens. I think they got extra confused because they follow Wanda (BR) everyone. Pretty sure they think she is a guinea. My neighbor also has some BR's and I think it was just too much for the little guineas minds to handle. I called for them and they just starred at me freaking out, but thankfully my chickens are a bit smarter and went over to get the guineas and bring them home.

Never a dull moment with our feathered kids. ;)

Well it's both a happy and sad day today. One of our little chicks didn't make it, so Judy is nice enough to bring me another one to keep my little girl company. We'll be meeting up in Greenwood tomorrow. On a happy note, I also got my first egg today. Since I only have a red sex-link and an Easter Egger pullet near age, its easy to tell that this one came from Nutella, my Easter Egger.

John I hope you feel better soon.

Wow, it looks like everyone had fun at chickenfest this weekend. It was late notice for me ( <-- noob ) and we already had other plans this weekend. I was tempted to break them.

I got a nice surprise for my BD when I came home from work today. Got my first egg! Woohoo!

It is light brown and of course smaller than usual. I was expecting a white egg from one of the white leghorns first but I don't think this one is. The one on the right is from the refrigerator for comparison and I added the k-cup. Still nice to finally get some production.

I have been thinking that I want an EE and saw some 3 months old pullets on Craigs List for $10. Is that a good deal?

Congrats on the eggs!!!! Still waiting for mine. My girls are roughly 15 & 18 weeks so I think we still have a bit to go. I'm going to go nuts when we finally get one. Building the nesting boxes this weekend so maybe that will give them some inspiration!

I would say it is your barred rocks. My BRs layed brown freckled eggs.

Pretty assortment of eggs you have. :)

Thank you! We are just getting started. Out of our 22 hens, we are getting about 6 eggs a day. So far I know some of our ISA Browns and Amber Links are laying. We got the speckled egg and the little light brown one just yesterday. I am assuming the speckled one is the BR or the SLW. The little light brown (almost pink) egg I assume is from the BO.

Apparently I am just a horrible chicken mother. Zach told me he was having a hard time finding all the chickens, and he thought that they had went into the corn. We went out to look for them, and I find a random bale of straw. I've asked everyone I know, and no one brought it. All but 5 of my chickens are gone. Three silkies, two roosters. I thought maybe they had been stolen (it was 10 chickens) and then I found a ton of feathers from my RIR. And then I found her foot. I have no idea what would eat everything but the foot. Or what could eat 10 chickens. I haven't found any other feathers, and most of my chickens had very distinct feather patterns. I'm thinking I'm going to start a new flock. So if anyone has any chickens to sell, please let me know. Also, any tips on how to NOT kill chickens would be appreciated.

sorry to hear this! When did it happen? It is possible that the others were just scared away and will return once they calm down? When I had corn behind me last year, the chickens would go hide, play, scratch, ect in there pretty much all day long. By sunset they were all back in the yard getting ready to roost in the coop.
So if this was just this morning, give them time as some may come back.
