INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Prepare to be astounded and amazed. First egg. Born 8/26/2013. Weight 43.01 grams. Length 1.983 inches. Width 1.537 inches.

Grade A Large store egg.

Matilda's first egg.

Matilda is the name I'm assigning to whichever hen laid it. Age 20 weeks, 3 days (the hen, not the egg).

Now all I need is 4 more and I can have breakfast.

John, Contratulations on your egg! I'm curious about why you weigh them though. If you don't sell the eggs, does it matter or is it just for fun?
I'm not sure if you can see it, but we use the one that actually goes in the window.
What a nice view. That fan looks like a good idea. I was just thinking last night that even with the windows completely open, its still stuffy in the coop.
I have had 2 hens that crow !!!!

That's the thing, I wasn't selling anything. Someone was commenting on one of my young roosters and I pretty much just said they could have him if they wanted him.

Maybe we should move to facebook , where we aren't moderated !!!
MMMM, then I'd only have to check one page

. If I had to choose, I'd rather hear about chickens and such.

So I ordered these double cup waterers.
Could you post a photo or a link of what this is? I'd like to see it :D

Quote: I thought about just using a regular window fan but I am concerned about fire. Since the regular house fans aren't made to take all the dust, it can overheat and cause a fire and there is always so much dust in a chicken house, I just figured it wouldn't be a good idea.

Leah's mom- had and email this morning from Valley Vet Supply they are having a barn fan sale.
I'll have to check that out!

Sometimes there are "trolls" that go around on BYC and "flag" posts just to cause trouble. Often times the moderators don't have the time to really check and see what's going on and they just get rid of or edit a post. Perhaps that's what happened?

I LOVE BULLDOGMA'S horse trailer coop. I actually had a horse trailer lined up to make one earlier this spring but ended up that it had axle problems so we didn't end up getting it. She originally posted it on the natural chicken keeping blog when she first made it. Very inspiring!

I like that you can take it with you if you move....or can move it to a different location on your property if you decide your coop needs to be somewhere different than you originally placed it.

I've looked for various enclosed trailers ever since...just haven't found the right one yet!

How else could I give a proper birth announcement? It always contains weight and length. I had to use a vernier caliper for length so I could get it accurate to the one thousandth of an inch. I assume you all wanted proper accuracy.

I forgot to give the name. It is Egbert Friedman Cackle.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness and attention to detail. I can't wait to see future pictures of Egbert scrambled!

When was the last time you heard about a fan shorting out and burning down a house? If you are concerned about it, ask your fire department if this sort of thing happens. If so, spend the money to get an enclosed motor fan. If not, save yourself the money. I've been around fans for 68 years and never heard of such a thing. Of course, I wasn't paying all that much attention for the first 10 years or so.

I can't see it! But I want one that goes in the window like that. Is it just a regular house fan?

ETA: I do see it now that I really looked close!!! So is it just a double window fan for houses?
Yes, it's just the kind that you can extend the sides on that does directly into the window/ frame. It works wonders. I actually have it blowing in most of the time. It helps with flies, and keeps them cooler at night. If my windows look strange, it's because I tinted them with window film from the walmart automotive section to keep it cooler when the sun is beating in. I'll likely take it off in the winter. I'll go out and get a better pic of the fan.
