I've been bawling my eyes out for the last 2 hours.  Came home from class and ran over my beautiful pair of gray silkies.  They are cooped in the car port but evidently found the pavement on the drive cooler; I hadn't shut them in before I left as it was about 4:30, and had just got dark when I drove in, so didn't see them.  I've lost birds that I was attached to before but never so blatantly my fault.

 

I'm so sorry to hear that! I had lost my African grey due to my fault. Forgot to cage him when I left for work. He apparently got spooked off his play stand by knocking off a perch and my dogs got him. It was hard to come home and see my pet headless and to know another one of my pets ate it!

As hard as it is, you can not beat yourself up over this!

That's disappointing. Although maybe you can use your hens to detect ripe produce, apparently they know when it's time to eat it. Maybe take them to the grocery to thump watermelons for you with their beaks.

I can't think why the grocery store manager would object. They have lots of chicken in the store. You're just bringing one more.

I was just going to say this. Most birds whose young people might come across in their yard have a limited sense of smell and will not detect a human's scent on their young just from a touch.

If the dove looks like the bird in the picture, then it is a fledgeling and is learning to survive on its own. I would leave it alone if I were you. It'll do fine on its own assuming a predator (or perhaps even a chicken) doesn't find it.

There is method to the madness. The purpose is to keep little kids from messing with baby birds, getting lice from them, and accidentally breaking legs or wings.

Or, they could just be wrong.

3 of the 4 Black Australorps are males. 1, the oldest, was given to me along with two Americauna males. When purchasing 15 brown egg layers from a well-known hatchery I had them add the 2 other males as I didn't know of the two Americaunas boys. Now that I know what I have I'm seriously considering repurposing the two Americauna boys and 1 of the BA's. Also, I'd like to offer the Phoenix for sale. He (I think) seems like a good bird but doesn't do much for me.

I have a couple youtube videos I've made but am to new here to know if I can post the links in these messages without getting in trouble.

Post it. They hardly ever come to your house to beat you up. Seriously, we post all kinds of stuff. If they don't like it, the worst that will happen is they will delete it.

Hi Pip'd.  Every time you post a pic of her, I like her look more and more.  The big floppy comb and the gold and brown coloring.  I'll be excited to learn what size eggs she lays.  And if Roha's eggs are the same size.  

She is so pretty, isn't she? I'm usually more attracted to the silver duckwing females, but man, this little lady is stunning!
