INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I know! I was freaking out. I was just posting that one of my birds died as on the leghorn thread we carry on conversations just as we would on here.and then that lady commented. Who just asks for someones dead chicken! she keeps trying to carry on a conversation about it. Im sorry but I dont want to have a conversation about she kills these birds and stuffs them. Sometimes they kill these birds just to show! She says she is starting her own collection of SOP birds. I didnt want to be rude, so I said O i see, tat definatley a different hobby, good luck with your collections. And she said thanks I have been proudly mounting my birds since 1971. I should of just stopped typing, but I felt obligated to anwser for some reason. My sister was awake and I talked to her. She thought it was weird too.

As an avid bird watcher there are a few birds that have remained rather elusive to me. The rather stunning Wood Duck being one of those that I have never seen.
A friend of mine from Texas sent me a package one day, open it up and about freaked.
He had sent me his first ever duck kill which happened to be a Wood Duck. It is beautifully stuffed and mounted. It was a phenomal gesture, but I defiantly put it on my 'who sends someone someing like that' list.

I can see why people do it, recording memorable times/pets. But wanting someone else dead animal for their own collection is odd. Specially if it is something they too can find for themselves.

Still chucking at the phrase 'proudly mounting my birds since 1971'.

Yes I have friends that do taxidermy. Just asking for a persons dead chicken struck me as funny at 1am. I used to always joke that I was going to have my favorite dog stuffed when she passed so I could always have her around ;). That was before it actually happened. She ended up under my tree. Anyway, I didn't mean any offense. To each their own. Every one is different that's what makes life interesting.

I have two BO roos that are needing a new home. I would like to combine my LF and bantams into the same large run and I would rather they not breed the bantams. Neither has shown any aggression towards people. They are approximately 7 months old right now, came from RK.

I will attempt to put pics up tomorrow, just thought I'd try here before CL

I had a Bob call me yesterday asking to buy 2 BO roosters. I did not have any. I will send you his info.
My mom is taking care of my chickens for me for the weekend and I got a call from her today. She told me one of my chickens died. I asked what pen, as right now I have chickens in 9 different pens. She told me the middle pen. I have 9,well now 8, chickens in the pen and no rooster. I asked her what one and this is the anwser I get. It is a reddish color. the only chicken that is close to red is my salmon favorelle. I asked her if she had feathered feet. She dosent know

. If it is my SF I am going to cry. She is like my baby. She follows me everywhere and just loves attention. I asked my mom if she could see anything wrong with her. She said she thinks she choked. I have this feed that is powdery and I had 3 chickens choke on it the other day, I am thinking They need to stop selling this feed, because it is obviously a reaccuring problem. Instead of explaning to my mom what to look for I am just going to have to investigate it when I go home tomorrow. Dont get me wrong I love all my chickens, but I really dont want it to be my SF.
So sorry, glad it was not your favorite.

That person just said they would be interested in having my dead bird for here collection! She wants my dead chicken! Now that is beyond weird! I am not giving someone my dead chicken! How do I get caught in these weird conversations!

no one is awake for me to call and talk to about this so figured I would just post it here. :)
I see it as strange for a residential collection but if it is like a museum room or something maybe not so strange. After all there are tons of wax museums and The wax people makers had to start off somehow. Think of strange others felt when they walked into a house that had a wax statue.

Count me as the oddball out, but I don't think it's that weird! It's definitely a lost art, which doesn't mean you have to be interested in it. Art can be very subjective. I've always found taxidermy interesting, but could never get a family pet mounted, but a chicken? I totally would! Lol!
This is something she lives everyday of her life, so for her to ask you if you were interested, was not strange to herself.
There's a lot of other things I could compare it too, but yes if it is not your norm, than I totally get it. You were not expecting it and are uncomfortable with it.
I on the other hand, would have jumped on the offer. (Free? Well yes!)

I also think it is pretty cool. There are many animals that the only way we know what they look like is from the mounted specimens in Museums. I think having a collection of SOP birds is a super cool idea and a great learning tool.

thanks. And I know! I typically have bad luck, which is a bummer. You had a little trouble with your silkie roo. I was so happy for you to read that your test came back clean. My chickens are accident prone too, apparentley. I get my feed at a feed mill. it is monpeiler, indiana. They mix it themselves. they just label it chicken layer mix. It is good quality feed it just is too powdery. I can telly ou they are not getting fed that anymore! I got my mom to send me a picture. It was not my SF! but it was one of my rose comb brown leghorns :(. I had one that was slightley underweight, so i am wondering if it was that one. I will update tomorrow after I find out all the details.

And thanks. Those test results were a huge relief. I think I'll still only get vaccinated babies from now on. That mareks scare took ten years off my life lol
I am so happy for you that its all clear. Its scary when Mareks comes into the conversation.

I was thinking the lady was a little whacky, but I'd probably just say no thanks. After reading your explanation it makes more sense. This is just another good example of the ranges of normal for people on this thread, from "I have chickens as pets in the house" to production farms and now creeped out by stuffed chickens to "please do"... I personally like my chickens stuffed with sausage stuffing.

Just checked the bantams coop. My broody hens have at least two new chicks poking out from under their wings.

I'm going to wait till after the colts game and try to figure out just how many there are.
