Indiana traders here

I live in Hagerstown (East Central Indiana), and work in Indianpolis. I have some 13 week old RIR roosters that I'm getting ready to process in a few weeks. I'll trade them for laying hens or pullets if anyone wants a young RIR rooster. I'm really new at this so I'm not sure if this is a good trade, or not (roosters for hens), so help me out with this if it's not a good thing. I'm ok with putting them in the freezer, but I'd rather have more laying hens. I have 12 Barr Rock pullet chicks that I ordered from Ideal and the RIR's came as the "packing peanuts".

Thanks!

Hi, gkeesling!

Sometimes it is hard to even give roosters away. So it is good that you are willing to dress them out for the freezer. There was a fellow near Pendleton who had Barred Rock pullets. His name goes by Indiana Hens and you can find him on page 6 of this thread.

Good luck with your flock.

gkeesling,

Will you be processing the birds yourself or will you be taking them to a butcher?

I'm trying to find a place that processes in the central Indiana area.

There is an Amish family on Hwy 1 about 2 miles North of I-70. They do chicken processing. You have to leave them your phone number and they will call you when they are ready. They don't process the chickens until they get around 100 or so that are ready. They said they were going to butcher in Feb. somtime but haven't called me yet. If they forget to call me then I'll probably have to do it myself. I don't know of any other place.
