GM is also a huge military contractor. They build military trucks and so on. Can't let that fall into the hands of the chicoms.

Silver's at $47+ now. Amazing.

Not to mention tanks and other equipment. Acquiring GM would give them dies and patents beyond belief. The 1936 Buick is a fine car for most of the world. China doesn't really care about pollution and safety. They could build old models forever.

And yes, the US government and the Canadian government are minority stock holders in GM. But does any one know who owns the rest? All one has to do to acquire the stock is put up the money.

The current administration wouldn't like the transfer of this company to main land China, but how could they stop it?

Scary stuff, Rufie.

Meanwhile, we in the US are having to park our cars and ride around on bikes like the Chinese. It all fits, I make what a Chinese worker makes, if I work hard.

I've heard all sorts of horrendous stories about Chinese merchants who want nothing but to make more money - even if it means bribing, re-using bad food, putting chemicals in food to make it look like something more expensive etc.

When mankind figures out an economical method to desalinate sea water it will open up the deserts of the world to agriculture. Countries like China that controlled population growth will suddenly find themselves under populated.

Right now, desalination is a very expensive process, but the future looks bright for the industry. There are several new methods on the drawing board now. I hope to live long enough to see some of them pan out.

Remember, water is never used up; it is just dirtied up and sent on it's way. The real challenge is to clean it up and recycle it.

When I heard Chinse soy sauce makers were using human hair clippings (!!!) to boost the protein in their product, I swore off of most any Chinese food product and for soy sauce, I'll only buy Kikkoman, made in Wisconsin for the last 100 or so years.

Hay around here is almost 23.00 a bale !! I switched to pellets. I feed hay here and there if I can find it for a decent cost. I dont get the high prices when most people can not even afford the taxes. It hard to feed our families. I have two growing boys, they eat me out of house and home. I am working on. A garden but I am one of the worst when it comes to plants. I even seem to kill plastic ones.

Estimates of petroleum reserves come and go. There are so many new discoveries popping up, I am afraid to trust those estimates. We were surprised to find out that the shale deposits could be worked by lateral drilling to become so productive. Of course this takes a lot of water to fracture the wells, but can you think of a better use for processed sewage water?

Some governments withhold their information, so it is really impossible to get a good idea of what is out there to be exploited. I see where it is now thought that the Brazilian Tupi off shore field has twice the reserves that the government said it did.

Who knows how much the Bohai Bay deposits off the China coast hold? China isn't saying. Maybe they don't know.

It looks like the world will depend upon coal, oil and natural gas for a long time. The Japanese reactor problem has set the future of nuclear energy back another generation. Maybe that is for the best.

This is where you and I differ. We need to get down to less than a billion humans on the planet, perhaps far less.

Well, we are all entitled to our opinion, not that it matters. You and I have no leverage on the situation. We are mere bystanders to history. What will happen will happen.
