Injured Duck

I have a friend who lives in Winter haven I reached out to her this morning to see if she knows any one in the Orlando area who might come and help you get hold of this drake. I'll be sure to post her reply if she does. Get those wire cutters.

Please keep me updated! I have to be out all day today, but can pick up those wire cutters tomorrow. I saw my local Walmart has a pair for just $5.00 in stock. So will pick that up tomorrow.

HE'S OKAY!!

I haven't seen him in 2 days. Last I saw him he came up to me and ate parrot food out of a bowl, and some small pieces of bread. But a few minutes later it all flew out of his beak and he was shaking his head vigorously back and forth trying to get that hook and rubber fish off.

He then went in the water where he again vigorously shook his head. He wanted that think off him bad. Then I guess out of frustration, he suddenly flew to the other side of the pond and disappeared in the bushes over there.

A little while ago he comes and at first I just thought it was one of his brothers (there's 3 or 4 males from the same clutch that hatched a few years ago). But then I looked closer I saw the hole in the side of his face where the hook was and the black part where it looked like it was infected.

He's also with the flock again. When he was injured they seemed to be pushing him out of their circle. It was so sad to watch. Apparently ducks don't want their mates hanging around after they're injured?

In any case, here's a pic I snapped of him a few minutes ago. You can see where the hook was. At least i'm 99% sure this is him. (They all looks exactly alike). Either someone helped him (which I doubt, people just don't seem to care), or his violent shaking finally broke it off. Here's the pic---I'm so happy this had a happy ending!!

Thank goodness for a happy ending! I think they’re tougher than we like to give them credit for but it’s still sad to see them struggle

I am thinking someone helped him he could not have gotten that barbed hook out,but praise God it’s gone that is so awesome!!! He is so handsome!!

So even if he got an infection it should eventually heal? After he ate, he was opening his beak wide like he was trying to make the food go down...(and it all did!). So it seems he's got some healing to do. But yeah, he's waddling around with the others now and goes to the pond to drink and looks so happy that the hook is finally out. And I can sleep better at night knowing he's ok.

I'd love to find whoever helped him and thank them. It gives me a renewed faith in people.

Probably still some swelling going on but hopefully since he ate he’ll be fine!!
