"Innies", "Outies" and Other Childhood Quirks

I remember a girl climbing under the table where I was at nap time so she could ask me to marry her.. Shes a archaeologist now I think.

I miss cartoons were the whole point was which animal managed to kill the other first. Apparently to morbid now... All this lovie dovie crud makes me sick. An I refuse to watch anime. If they cant take the time todraw each frame out there not going to take the time to write a good story ether.

Rugrats, as a kid? Sigh.... Yes, it was Looney Tunes for me too, and they were ALL black and white because all we had was an old Zenith black and white BEAST that NEVER got moved. You know, in the wooden cabinet? And then the screen would start rolling and you'd have to get up and smack it or stand in a certain spot only... and all we had were 3 channels, ABC, NBC & CBS... and sometimes PBS depending on the mood of the TV. And even then, all the channels were snowy.

Oh my gosh, I had to LOL at your description of the old consel TV's back then. And yes...........they had to be smacked on the side when the screen rolled!

And we had rabit ears for antenna's and you had to get UP to change the channel. And the national anthem was played at midnight, then the TV station would shut down.

Remember these?
Skipper Chuck with Mr. Green Jeans
Green Acres
The Howdy Doody Show (I was a guest on the show once, LOL!!!)
Mr. Magoo
Abbot and Costello
Fat Albert
The Micky Mouse Club (the original, lol)

Playing hide and seek, marco/polo in the pool, spending the day reading a book in the tree out back, flipping boards on the property behind us (I was in a neighborhood, but there was a 3 acre farm behind us) to look for snakes, frogs and whatever else I could find. Getting paddled by the school principal when deserved (I wish they still did that today. Actually I wish some parents did too!). Didn't turn me into a psycho. (sorry, not PC)

I also remember having an American flag hanging in EVERY classroom in school and saying the Pledge daily. With hand over heart.

Oooh ooooh oooh..........here's another one! Finding a scrap piece of plywood (usually from that farm behind us, LOL) and using it as a skimboard when the summer rains hit and the streets flooded. And how bout Atari? Kids today would go bonkers playing tennis on that.

Times sure have changed........................

I'm pretty sure I was a weird kid, still get called weird nearly every day. I didn't talk, I mean really didn't talk. My teacher or the principal would call my mom weekly because I never said a word, even when called upon. I cried if my mom didn't put my socks inside out, because the seam bothered my toes. I wore shoes two sizes to big for the same reason. I was in 5th grade the first time I wore jeans because, once again, the seams. I'm pretty sure I wore a gray Mickey Mouse sweatshirt with some loud patterned cloth pants every day for about three years straight. I also at a lot of Elmer's glue. Geesh, I was a weird kid....

When I was in kindergarten, I walked to school 2 miles away. The girl across the street usually walked with me, but one day, she never came outside. I was so proud of myself, I had gotten up, got myself dressed, got my own breakfast, and went out to wait for her, but she never showed. So I walked by myself. I got to the school, and the doors were locked. I cried and cried, and walked home. I remember someone stopped and asked me if I wanted a ride, and I said no, and they drove on. How scary, right???? I got home, and there were cops EVERYWHERE!!!!!! My mother was freaking out because I was missing......... I couldn't understand it, I just went to school........ then they told me it was Saturday. I didn't know what Saturday was.

I also remember milk cartons and nap time, duck duck goose and playing house. Macaroni art and story time. Learning to write my letters and numbers, and coloring inside the lines. When my kids started school they all had to be able to write the alphabet and count to 100, know how to write their name and even know several small words before they started school.

We have all the Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry Cartoons on DVD. Our kids love them as much as we did. My brother LOVED Fraggle Rock. Loved the Muppets too.

I took my tonsils and adenoids to school for show and tell. And I LOVED Dodge Ball. (sometimes I got nailed)

My brother spent kindergarten eating the paste.

My grammar school had a school carnival every year. There was this hill that went down to the soccer field that was pretty darn steep - you'd have to walk sideways down it. Anyhow, for the carnival, they would cover that hill with straw and give the kids cardboard "sleighs" and let us have at it. Dang, it was fun! It was slick as snot and you really got going!
