Insulation or not?

Small coop like yours I would definitely insulate. When you have as many birds as us they produce enough body heat in our large coop, in your little coop raised off ground it must get like little freezer. If they are not using valuable energy in winter trying to keep warm it should help with egg production. Plus insulating coop will help prevent eggs from freezing.

Have fun!

Not for such small coop, I'm afraid it could cause fire. Maybe that is my own paranoia, but seven chickens in an insulated coop will be toasty. Our coop has electricity, but the lights are at 8’ height off the ground. If you really want lights I would recommend using a “Vapor Proof Light Fixture”. As a general rule of measure each average size chicken produces approximately 10 Watts of heat. They will be warm without light bulb. If you want light to supplement lost daylight in winter months then place light on timer to make up difference of lost day light.
