International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Agreed. A Marans is a Marans to me whether it is bred in France or the US. I'm sure France produces their fair share of culls just the same as we do. A french bred and raised bird isn't anymore superior in my eyes than some of the stock bred and raised right here on US soil. No disprespect intended to Brenda Little or Monique, but I've seen some not so nice looking birds come out of that line so they are not all hatching pure perfection just because they are a pure French line.

We're good buddy. :)

I was complaining about my marans combs till I saw the french winner hen. my girls have better combs.

I should have thought longer about my response before I submitted it when I said that just because a French family moves to the US and has kids doesnt make their kids French. We are not talking in terms of citizenship with chickens. Lol. Genetically yes they would still be French. I'm allowed to have a stupid moment. My brain is burned out with school and nursing stuff.

Excuse et moi.

if your brain is burned out mine is ash:lau

I hope to have broodies in my new place. I plan to make a maternity ward for them.

the electro-guys (don't know how you call them) think they are smart and don't want to connect me to the grid that is sitting at the corner of my property. they told me to pay 3 more columns from the other side so that they expand grid with my expences. I decided to be off grid. no more electricity bills and no more taxes they burden on the electricity bill. it is unbelievable what we pay and how much.

I do plan to use incubator from time to time but I already order silkies. they are good broodies and mothers. mine is taking good care of the 2 little marans + 1 phoenix my friend's broody hatched and I put it under my silkie at night.

Is anyone else sick and tired of broody hens?? I break 3 up, and 3 more clog up the nests with their broody bullcrap. It causes a lot of drama in the hen house. I love my Games and my Marans but they are major broodies. I don't want to hen raise a lot of chicks because the hens fight and kill the chicks in the crossfire. Especially the Games.. they are very aggressive. And if I'm going to have to pen the broody hen and chicks up I might as well brood all the chicks myself. :hmm
Not this year, haven't had one broody. I collect eggs daily and don't really give them a chance

So you will have electricity in the house then or no?

I've had Silkies before and they are good broodies. But they are fairly small so you can't fit many big Marans eggs under each hen.
