International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

they can not be carriers if they are not showing it .
a pullets is different story .they don t show it .same like the shoulder colour ,they have the genes but not the expression .

I always keep saying ,a cockerels should be selected recording to they body colour pattern and qualities .
the hens can be selected recording to they body type ,comb ,tail .dark egg .
when we mate those 2 together we will come out with a perfect marans .
Sex linked genes are very tricky and simple in a time to work with .just need the right formula .that all .
doing many pairing is a best way to find a winning pair without speculating .

Ok I have a game plan. Gonna hopefully end the white so it isn't a pain in my backside anymore.

hold you horse lady .
Queen is old now . don t forget .plus she give birth to Malika s . so she is a proven breeder .need to be mated to DH grand son first to test for any recessive gene, don t just throw out of a breeding program .
don t panic .it is just a fault you need to fix ,no need to throw every thing away .

I will breed queens tell she stop laying eggs if I had her and she gave me Malika .
Malika now gave Dark Halo . I m just trying to high light the qualities Queen possesses

We are both panicking! At least I am!

Well I am relieved you think I should still use her. Looking forward to seeing what the birds produce next year. I can trio mate DH to Duchess and Queen. Duchess lays a light egg so hers are easy to pick out. I honestly had thought about not using her since her egg color is light. Barely a 4 I would say.

Thank you! But at least there are several pullets free ranging that are looking promising. Queen gave me Malika and likely Dark Angel is her son as well. She hasn't been a waste, even if she isn't perfect.

my friend you forgetting the value of the old breeder genes .
young pullets can not replace the mature proven genes of Queen ,not because she has 2 white feather at the old age . even if it is parasitic white ,it is not as bad as underfluff ,

line breed her first with DA if you think is her son and DH we think is her Grand son ,what a better way to know what a make up of your line before you go deep into it . be wise in selecting don t miss the corner stone . it is important than any other stone .because serve different purposes .

Queen is like that she has many qualities .your breeding program need .
only have Duches as mature ,not proven yet . Xina is out .what else you left with .are you going to cull all your hens because they have fault.

think well my friend .don t rush thing out .

PS .I have said before ,when we take one breeders out from the breeding program we need to find a similar bird to replace him/her .we can not just eleminate ,we will left with nothing .

You have lots of nice ones to pick from. I am going to look at Nimbus again tomorrow. In natural light. Just to make sure. I don't know what I would do if he has white under fluff. I don't have any other options. Here I go worrying again.

stop worrying .don t send bad energy to the cosmos with your worry .send some good though .
it is fun to breed a chooks not a worry job .

Thank you.. I will wait on the pullets to mature more before I pick any out because it's just easier that way. I hate when a bird looks promising, but then doesn't turn out so well when they mature.

Chooks man told us not to worry. Don't worry until you have to, Nimbus is probably fine. As challenges present themselves, we will overcome them as they arise.

great attitude my friend ,we will deal with what come out when does come out .we don t have to worry about it .we are always going to find some thing to breed in or out or the fix ,or to breed true ,so there is awlays going a be some work to do .let have fun with it ,not worring about it ,not healthy
