I am learning to do just that. Last year I probably would have freaked out to find a split/slipped wing bird produced from my line. But this year I am a lot more laid back with it. No line is going to be free from DQ, defects, recessive genes, etc. I am learning to appreciate my birds for what they are now and am seeing potential where I wouldnt have seen it before and what can be done to improve upon them. I will breed my best to my best and take them as they come.

He is big! That was another question I had. I know size comes from the female, that is what I've always been told my whole life. Does the male contribute at all? I ask mainly because I have two OEG brothers and I like the smaller brother better but need to improve upon their size.

I was looking back through my notes and Queen had the white feathers in her wing as a pullet that persisted with her adult annual molt. This was her second adult molt this year. Does that change things regarding using her as a breeder?

Yeah don't panic Kayla! Lol I am not panicking! Lol :lau :D

Believe it or not, for the first time in my life I am not panicking regarding my Marans. Lol. I think I am just to that point that it is what it is. I have been ready to scrap the whole line before, probably more than once. Especially when I couldnt get a handle on the high tails. The line is getting better each year so I can't ask for any more than that. Now that I have nice tails to look at I feel like any problem I am faced with has a solution. To me, nothing was worse than those cursed high tails. Lol. If they can be solved, so can the white.

yes my friend the Sire { cockerel} has some thing to do with a body type but not as much as a hen .
the hen contribute the shape and size of the body .big hen will always produce big chooks .
the Rooster contribute the Stand and a power .powerful sharp rooster will yield powerful strong sons .Elegant rooster will yield Elegant progeny,

I always select the rooster fro the shape of they body ,but the most important thing they will be selected for is they body colour pattern and a quality of the plumage .

it is nice to know she always had it . so now we know .
does not change any thing to your breeding program .because she is not powerful in that area . the reason I say that is Malika is her daughter and she is free from it .so Queen is nor dominant in the mating regarding the parasitic white .
maybe her parasitic white is sex linked .only her boys will inherit it not the girls .

Does Prince has a same white feathers in his wings or tail ?very important to know .
Malika s has got it is good enough for me . I go with a result .not a theory .

my friend you forgetting the value of the old breeder genes .
young pullets can not replace the mature proven genes of Queen ,not because she has 2 white feather at the old age . even if it is parasitic white ,it is not as bad as underfluff ,

line breed her first with DA if you think is her son and DH we think is her Grand son ,what a better way to know what a make up of your line before you go deep into it . be wise in selecting don t miss the corner stone . it is important than any other stone .because serve different purposes .

Queen is like that she has many qualities .your breeding program need .
only have Duches as mature ,not proven yet . Xina is out .what else you left with .are you going to cull all your hens because they have fault.

think well my friend .don t rush thing out .
chooks man

PS .I have said before ,when we take one breeders out from the breeding program we need to find a similar bird to replace him/her .we can not just eleminate ,we will left with nothing .

chooks man

That is very true. I was just worried about passing the parasitic white further. Malika is better than her mother so I was thinking it might be smart just to breed her to both males next year, as well as a couple of my best pullets. If you think Queen is okay to use, then use her we shall.
