International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

so now I just got to figure out how to get nicely colored bcm from them. I do have a couple of other bcm cockerels that are way more colorful. would that help?

when selecting a black copper rooster you have to look at his body color .

I heard a lot people mention all sort of stuff ( wry tail ,bad comb , big , small etc ) but they forget the body color ,the most important part in the rooster .

colorful BCM rooster is better than any other BCM rooster with other trait but badly colored

it is a cuckoo marans. he looks dark, that's why I thought it was a girl. but he is so cute and silly. my bcm are calm and sweet birds and this little one is sweet only. he keeps chasing and fighting the other one who is double size.

he know he is special that why ,

what do you mean he is dark ?,he should be lighter grey with cuckoo pattern .

love to see a photo of him .

nice to hear from you .I thought you left Greece .

I have a Greek friend now ,they gave me a dog ( Blue Healer ) and I gave them some fertile eggs . good deal . they are lovely people .

Chickens are so much fun, so entertaining.... every time I come to this thread I learn something new. I like that we all can ask our questions, have our opinions, share our knowledge, disagree and agree in the fellowship of Black Copper Marans.

finally the first incubation of the season is on .

176 egg where selected from 208 collected .
average weight 66.4 gr , max 75gr Black copper pens and min 58gr Wheaten pen

the Wheaten hens from both pen .strait wheaten pen and a blue wheaten pen are the only two pens under 60 gr . they need some extra care

each try has been disinfected by the UV light both side for 30 min one side and 15 min the other side .when put inside the incubator .

I did the first try ( need to be done on the top shelf ) first ,than moved it the middle shelve and place the second try on the top shelve for the same amount of time .

temperature has been study for the last 4 days at 37.6 Celcus and around 42 % humidity . Marans don t like a high humidity .

here few photos.

Happy days here down under . you guys freezing with the winter and me and my chooks enjoying the worm of the spring . ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

soon a marans chicks all sort of colors will be born .

It's actually fairly nice weather in the southern portion of the US, Mississippi has been in the 30 degrees Celsius range during the day (approx. 86 F).
I think the south forgets that there is such a thing as winter haha.

I see you run your incubator at the same range as I do, always done well hatching with that humidity %.
I have 2 batches going right now, one is on lockdown and hatches on the 21st and the other on the 24th.

I can't imagine hatching 170+ chicks, that is quite the task. How are you IDing which eggs came from which pen/variety?
