It's actually fairly nice weather in the southern portion of the US, Mississippi has been in the 30 degrees Celsius range during the day (approx. 86 F).
I think the south forgets that there is such a thing as winter haha.

I see you run your incubator at the same range as I do, always done well hatching with that humidity %.
I have 2 batches going right now, one is on lockdown and hatches on the 21st and the other on the 24th.

I can't imagine hatching 170+ chicks, that is quite the task. How are you IDing which eggs came from which pen/variety?

tagging is a secret ,
I use colored and numbered leg band for each variety and each rooster within the variety .

Example = Birchen = Green .mean all the hens have a green tag on they Left leg with number . SCANDINAVIA is green number 1 . OSLO 2, Copenhagen 3 etc........
the Rooster they are tagged differently .
Viking2 is Yellow Right Leg
Erickson2 is green RL
Shorty is White RL

a trick is how to truck many chicks .I use color and leg combination .
the chick will carry the father color leg band on the RL NOT numbered and the strain color leg band on the Left with a number.
Viking2 X SCANDINAVIA chicks = yellow leg band on RL and Green leg band on the Left with number say = 1.3 .6 .8 11.14.17.19 etc................
Erickson 2 X SCANDINAVIA chicks = Green leg band on RL and Green on the LL with numbers say = 1.3.6.8.11.14.17.19. etc...........

Some Rooster may have a same color leg band but they are not from the same family genetic like the Erickson2 is yellow ER black chicks at hatch . QUERICO is yellow too but he is a Wheaten rooster ,chicks will hatch yellow .

at 8 weeks the selected one ( cream de la cream ) are tagged with a close leg ring ( custom made with Logo .year. strain and number ) all the same color .each year I select a different color not me but the Australian Poultry peoples . all this tag will be registered and can compete on the show ring

Example = Birchen = BR 01 MA&MRM. 16. so number could be trucked to the parent stock or me as the owner .

so much work goes with breeding a lot variety .but is fun . I like it .

Black copper all 3 are sold. people want to pay fortune for this chooks . I couldn t say no to the price . I can make BCM.

I ll no sale any other rooster for no money in this earth . they are of limit .

I ordered leg band from China . they come in 10 different color pack of 1000 numbered .they are cheap .
500 of each size from 8.10.12.14.16.
1000 of each size from 18.20.22 .

Breeding the chooks is fun .

with a few chickens I have I don't need bands. but it is good to know in case I manage to get serious with breeding.

my french chick and his hatch mate sleep in my bedroom in a box. they both jumped out so I must go now.

I though you are serious about breeding . .

I don t think you need to tag your chicks ,they are treated like a children sleeping in the bedroom .

I think if I do this sort of practice I ll have no where to sleep .

Good job!
Our chicks have the same birthday!

I think I screwed something up on my incubator hatch, my chicks hatched this morning... 2 days early.
Time to buy a new thermometer I suppose.

I am serious but I cannot hatch many of them like you do.

it is getting cold at night and they are too young and 2 of them only. they need an extra protection. I don't see any blood in their droppings so I hope they don't have cocci any more.

here they are:

they enjoy sun bathing.

I have no predators, even the rats have never bothered my chickens but they get sick and die. I don't know how many of them I put in the house when they were sick. once I had 1 cockerel in the kitchen, another one in the bathroom and 3 pullets in the living room
