International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have a new layer in the coop! I’m not sure who laid it. It does look sort of Marans like but lighter than I expected. The suspects would be BCM, BR, EE, or OE. I’m leaning heavily toward it being my Olive Egger and she didn’t get the blue gene. I hatched her from a geeen egg. When I got my Marans hatching eggs the breeder had one EE in with his BCM breeding pin.

I probably jinxed it by naming her blue. I already have an olive egger named olive that lays tan. Might as well continue the trend I guess. I guess I’ll be giving all of the suspects a vent check later to see if I can figure this out.

If it is marans will it get darker? The speckling really makes me think it is one of the Marans but it’s quite a bit lighter in color than the eggs I set in the incubator. If I hadn’t set the eggs myself I would think hatchery quality Marans.

I’m still holding out hope that it was not my olive egger. I do want all of the colors so I’m not upset at all about the color whoever laid it. If the olive egger doesn’t have the blue gene it just sets me back 6 months on getting some f2 olive Eggers.

it could be marans egg.

sometimes marans first eggs are brown but speckled. they get darker later.

Nothing visible when I went out again. So hopefully she's just hunkered down for the night.

Yes I believe (don't quote me on this) but the darker speckles are the potential she has to lay that color solid. Even my OG's that have started back up just recently have started out on the lighter side and gradually got darker within a week ish.

No sadly no sign whatsoever of her. I've got all the birds on lockdown just in case.

Case in point... Joannies 1st 6 since starting back up. Dated left to right. Yesterday's being her darkest so far.
